Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened

And now the Olympic depression starts to hit

Which will be cured by the Summer Paralympics :d

It also won’t be much of a depression since there will only be six months between Tokyo 2020 and Beijing 2022.

I am kind of missing writing in this thread :-(

Do you think we will see Tokyo 2021 olympics or not? I would like to but I am afraid they will be cancelled.

I think Tokyo 2021 will happen but it will be very different from a normal Olympic Games

I definitely see Tokyo Olympics happening. If they don't happen Beijing won't happen either that's what IOC said. Here in India vaccine distribution blueprint has been decided and by December 100 million doses will be prepared  for India alone.

I wonder who has the most chances to get a medal in Tokyo as a "dark horse", as a new star who will be born this summer?

Benedetta Pilato is my choice here in 100 m breastroke.

Jemma Reekie in 800 m in athletics is another one.

Looks Iike I will have less usual work as a lawyer in coming 3 weeks, so I may have more time for my olympic hobby. Maybe we could try to update our day-by-day predictions, but this time I will try to focus only on a few sports which I am interested the most. I don't feel I know much about e.g. archery, taekwondo, track cycling, fencing, shooting, weightlifting etc., so maybe our forum experts on that sports could add their thoughts, too. We will see.

I know June 2021 would be better time for this kind of predictions but I expect in June I will have to focus on my work, to be able to have 3 weeks off for the games.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
