Chile is really weak in multi-event sports and have been slightly reversed in athleticism.

On the other hand, Swimming events we can't compete, and that cost us a lot of medals even in the south american games :(

I'm optimistic for today's results

:)

Great start for Canada as well.

Already improved (from Lima) gold medal totals in swimming, cycling, skateboarding (included as a total under roller skating), and taekwondo

To be fair, we were pretty cursed in 2019, we were capable of winning 10-15 more golds, but our athletes fell at the final hurdle.

I suspect with the host nation boost, Chile will be competing with the likes of Argentina, Colombia and Cuba. If not, they should still finish solidly in the top 10.

While swimming appears to be a diverse sport given that most nations compete in it, in reality only a handful of nations excel in it. Currently only 5/45 (11%) of medals were won by non-USA/Brazil/Canada nations. In 2019, it was 21/114 (18%) and Argentina accounted for 10 of them. So unless you are planning to compete with Brazil/Canada you don't really need a good swim team to excel.

Regina Jaquess :USA defends her slalom title in water skiing.

We sent three women and only one man, so I’d imagine there was a bit of pressure on the girls to secure medals.

:BRA will medal in water skiing after having to rely on other nations for reallocations in order to enter any skiers.
