In Gymnastics, Rebeca Andrade won't do the AA so Brazil probably not only has lost this medal but also a possible team gold. She's a favourite on Vault and Bars, but has american competition. Hopefully Flavia Saraiva can win a gold in any event.

Without Caio Souza, Brazil isn't a favourite in any event on the men's side. Curiously enough, Arthur Nory will compete in AA for the first time in years (he doesn't do Rings), trying to get the Olympic quota.

So indeed Olympic quotas will be given for the gymnastic disciplines?

I think so, at least that's the expectation from Brazilian Gymnastics - to get the only quota available (best AA after :USA and :CAN which already qualified a full team). But apparently the 2024 World Cup series has priority over this? Meaning that someone like Zanetti (unlikely) could get a Rings quota and then the Pan American Games spot would go to another nation (assuming Brazil gets this quota, which is already difficult).

Isn’t Thibeault is the heavy favourite for gold in the women’s 75kg weightclass?

I wasn’t sold on the diving venue when I saw photos earlier this week, but it does come across nice enough on the broadcast.

A nice bit of propaganda from this morning while we wait for the opening ceremony.

    • Unfortunate, but it doesn't change the fact that I'm looking forward to Thursday evening, when the team captain's meeting is over and we have our very first World Cup start list of the season. Always a cool moment to see who's there and everything
    • Today I unpacked some of the boxes in which we have put my way too many books to move to our house, and I came across these beauty's I hadn't seen for a while     Absolutely recommended, tough to get for a decent price, but they are such an interesting read with lots of very interesting little stories! Still looking for at least 1900, 1904 and 1906, but not really in the right moment to spend money on that now, so the wait goes on
    • Which I guess is part of why unfortunately 'our' first wild card attempt of the season was rejected last week
