Thank you very much for your explanation. Sincerely hope Germany will be able to develop a vaccine soon.

In case some people are interested about the situation in Germany:

- Apparently Germany increased its critical care bed capacity to 40k and of those between 15k and 20k are currently free (which means roughly 34 intensive care beds per 100.000 people, compared to roughly 10 intensive care beds per 100.000 people in Italy/Spain/France)

- Currently there are roughly 2200 patients with Covid-19 who need intensive care, 1800 of them need addititonal oxygen

- The number of ventilators was increased to 30k

- Over the last couple of days Germany always had roughly 6000 new cases and 100 - 150 new deaths (which suggests that currently one person statistically only infects one other person), in total there are about 95k confirmed cases and roughly 1400 deaths, so the death rate (which has been steadily increasing over the past couple of weeks) is now at about 1.5 %

- The measures that were taken seem to be working and the doubling time is at 9 days currently, Angela Merkel said that only when the doubling time is at 14 days or so it will be time to consider lifting some of the restrictions

- The current testing capacity is at roughly 100k tests per day and in total around 1.5 million tests were conducted so far, of which roughly 7 % were positive

- Sadly (for all men) german doctors are also observing (like their colleagues from other countries) that men need intensive care more often than women

Edit: According to Dietmar Hopp (main shareholder of Curevac) by this fall Curevac might be able to produce a couple houndred million doses of vaccine ... but the leading (german) virologists keep insisting that it will take at least 12 more months to get a vaccine. I would like to believe Hopp on this, but i fear that he won't be right.

Isn´t Germany counting the deaths in a different way from other countries, only the ones that died of Covid and didn´t have any other cronical problem? At least I heard that from a doctor here.

As far as i know that isn't correct. I think the city of Hamburg is counting their deaths this way, but the RKI (Robert-Koch-Institut) that is responsible for the statistics for Germany as a whole counts everyone who died and was tested positive, even if he/she died from something else. For example look at the following case: In Heinsberg a 78-year-old man died of heart failure without having any problems with his lungs, but he was still counted as a corona victim (after testing positive). Also in two retirement homes in Würzburg and Wolfsburg about 30 patients died and all were counted as corona victims although, as you might suspect, most of them were pretty old (80+) and had at least one underlying condition.

Based on the data written below, USA is leading the world as they have conducted 1,656,897 tests and up till today USA remain as the country who have conducted the most test for Coronavirus. However, slow response and slow to react right at the beginning of the crisis have led to the explosion of humber of cases and high reate of death as well.

Those numbers are really only interesting if you consider the population. If you do so, USA is way behind.

Yes you are right about this. Considering that USA is the third biggest country in the world, I have to agree with you that their reponse have been very slow. They have only started to conduct more test in the month of March. The first 70 days in USA have really been wasted by not doing much.

    • I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.
    • Plaisier blew 3 match darts and Ratajski comes back to win!
    • Yes, she was unlucky, but it could just as easily have happened during some training, like with Gut, etc. Brignone has been essentially injury-free throughout her long career, which is very rare in this sport. It's unfortunate that this happened after her best season ever and just 1 year before the Olympic Games in home, when she just missing of win the Olympic gold medal in her great career. With the gold in Cortina, she would have become a legend of Italian skiing, on par with Tomba. Now she's still the best Italian woman in history, but the miss of Olympic gold will likely haunt her for the rest of her life.
    • It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.   We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...
    • Mikaela Shiffrin  off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner  entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.
    • Maryna Gąsienica-Daniel with a 5th place PB in Semmering GS!
    • Today RDC will defeat Senegal  and Tunisia 0-0 Nigeria
