[OFF TOPIC] Coronavirus Pandemic

Oh boy, first confirmed case in California. Sounds like they think he got it while in the state, so RIP.

It’s already turned into a scandal, since the CDC denied UC Davis’s first request to test for Covid-19. He tested positive a few days later.

Really hoping it hasn’t spread at this point, but at this point it’s inevitable the disease will make to most countries. I just hope the qualifier doesn’t get canceled.

South Korea is almost getting more new cases per day than China.

I find that extremely difficult to believe...

Not 'almost' anymore: today they've announced - for the first time - more new cases than China.

One can probably take the Chinese numbers with an entire mine of salt, but alright.

Portuguese media are getting desperate and extremely frustrated, as lots of nations have already a Coronavirus case in their countries, even in Spain or Brazil, and nothing appears to happen in Portugal.

Every day they came up with more possible cases that ended up as negative, which makes our media very sad

Maybe Pastel de Nata (portuguese typical pastry that we ate regularly) works as natural repellent of the virus?

14 workers from the Danish television channel TV2 has been sent home and are to stay quarantined for 14 days as they've been in close enough contact to the first bearer.

It would be interesting to know the positive tests / total tests  ratio per country in Europe but apparently no one has collected the data in one place...

Sounds like 64 tests in Denmark, but I guess that'll get a lot higher.

    • They don't have a quota in men's singles either, but I guess they'll be able to choose their own? There are actually only 8 teams with Q in tea realy from possobily 11. But I'm just surprised China isn't competing in team events this season...
    • For me there's a World Cup in Winterberg- it doesn't count toward Olympic qualification, and there's no test event in Cortina- it does. The World Cup ranking isn't the same as the Olympic ranking and the latter isn't listed anywhere. Unfortunately, the Luge federation is performing poorly, unlike the FIS, which has up-to-date standings.
    • One of their riders is from Xinjiang, so absolutely they will take them.
    • Got Post 2 updated with results...glad to see  on the podium with Ro and Florian...now if they can do it individually it would be great!
    • I also wonder if China will accept its quota in the women's doubles? If so, Germany will only have one doubles, which will increase Italy's medal chances. I'm asking about China because their women's doubles is very weak and frequently suffers DNFs, and I suspect they'll send them to the Olympics. On the other hand, without it, they won't be able to compete on the team. Is anyone here from China here and know that`s country's policy in such cases? It means someone is qualified but very weak and has no chance of winning a medal.
    • Here is World Cup Standings, but I don't know if that's what you want: https://www.fil-luge.org/en/overall-scores?event_season_id=33.   I also don't know how they determined who got to compete, but perhaps Host Country extra quota?
    • Where can I see the current Olympic rankings? There's no link on Wikipedia. In my opinion, after the last World Cup, Italy should have had 3 people in the men's single, not the USA – the 3 athlete from the USA wasn't even in the top 20 recently, while here Gufler-Ita,  was 12th.
    • Updated Post 2 with results from Park City...Italy and United States joining the conversation!
    • Poland, for example, has Semurunyyi in speed skating, France has Kirpichnikova in swimming, who won a medal in the 1500 meters in Paris and we have nothing. We could easily have signed someone in speed skating, cross-country skiing, etc. We could have even proposed this to Ustjugov, becouse he wanted to train with the Italian national team 2 years ago. We simply lack the intelligence and cynicism. Antropova shows that it is worth doing this, because without her we probably wouldn`t have won the gold at the Olympics and World Championships in the last 2 years.
    • It's a shame that Italy hasn't naturalized anyone from those regions for 4 years, including winter sports. Many countries do this, though the most of them are those from the former USSR, where Russia itself probably doesn't bother with too long waiting periods: Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, etc, but not only they. We only have Antropova, which isn't even case involved in the war, as it was already discussed in 2021.   https://www.oasport.it/2025/12/polina-kudermetova-non-rappresentera-piu-la-russia-la-tennista-giochera-sotto-la-bandiera-delluzbekistan/
