Hopefully Leylah and Dabrowski ream up and might be a dark horse for a medal

Exactly and without shapo, Felix will only be playing two events instead of three so it will lighten his load

Felix Dolci and Rene Cournoyer secure their spots on the Canadian Olympic squad for men’s artistic gymnastics through the Canadian Championships, as the top two all-around finishers.

Ana Laura Portuondo Isasi has officially qualified for Paris in judo (women’s +78kg) with a team invitational quota through the Olympic Rankings!

First time in history that Canada will be present in the Olympic mixed team event!

Edit: Nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. Calculations were wrong

So, another update on this. Looks like she’ll qualify after all. :yes

Also, Kelly Deguchi has officially qualified for Paris. Would’ve preferred Frascadore, but it is what it is :dunno:

So that means Canada will take part in the team event? I don't always have the time to watch all of judo, but the team event was fun to watch in Tokyo.

Yes, that’s correct. Only judo I’ll be watching is if any Canadians make the medal matches. Otherwise I’m prioritizing other sports.

Great news. Yes, that's usually how I do it with the combat sports. Now with Canada with so many chances in swimming/athletics (and even gymnastics) it'll be a busy two weeks. Add in all the other Canadian chances and sports I just enjoy watching. And my job is cruelly making me go back to work during the Olympics.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
