Guadalajara, the city I live in, as well as other towns in the state of Jalisco, are currently under siege by cartels.

Blocked roads, burnt cars, trucks and buses all around the city streets, plus armed cartel squads through the city.

Guess there’s not going to be repechage matches or even WC after all

Stay safe and take care

Mexican security forces were on his payroll.

Mexican government and the idiot bitch that calls herself president can deny it all they want, but it was US military units that were undercover that got him.

Mexican federal and local governments already started putting media on a chokehold.

Cartels tried to take control of one of the cities largest public hospitals, to burn it, but could not.

They’ve practically took control of every major road in the western states (Jalisco, Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Colima and Nayarit), known as New Galicia during colonial times.

Thanks everyone for their words. Situation has improved, at least in the last few hours.

Still, classes were suspended in the states of Jalisco and Nayarit, and most employers told office and service workers to remain home, with some of us doing home office.

No major casualties among civilians, but hard to tell as I said, federal government put a chokehold on major and local news and social media, in part to avoid major panic, in part to enforce their corrupt narrative in which they insist “everything is calm”.

Hard to believe when yesterday a 6 million people metro area, along many other localities and rural areas, emptied business, malls, restaurants and stop all activities for 15 hours or so just of pure fear of becoming another number of cartel and allies casualty list.

This morning you can hear some cars, and even people down the street again, compared to yesterday which had an eerie silence.

    • A miracle just happen: a Dutch judoka won a medal, even gold. Joanne van Lieshout (already World Champion in 2024) had some difficult years, but is back now. Very promising, however she's our only judoka at world level.
    • A bit of a mixed session for  GB.   The Women's Team Pursuit blew up in the final and were lucky to avoid the overlap. Worth saying the GB were the only medalist that didn't make use of their substitute rider - probably not surprising given the substitute was Lauren Bell. Still a second-tier team was good enough to take a silver.   The Men's Team Pursuit had a nightmare day. Having crashed in the first qualifying run, they did enough on the rerun to get to the 1st round where they did step up and qualify for the bronze medal match. They kept it close against China for the first half before fading pretty badly to finish 4th.   I was a bit surprised that the Women's Team Sprint were beaten by China. They were leading by 0.2 seconds after Bell and Finucane had completed their laps but it looked like Parris-Smith was just way too far back.   The standout was the Men's Team Sprint. I thought they were going to have to settle for the silver but somehow managed to pull it out of the bag in the final lap.        I definitely picked the wrong section of the crowd though - caught between two competing locals. One vocally anti-China, accusing them of cheating and booing every time they were on the track. At one point he was singing God Save the King and Rule Britannia. In the end he was asked to leave.    Biggest cheer of the night was for  Lee Sze Wing's silver in the elimination race.
