 VS  35-34, dramatic win for  with a last second save.. the drama started when Richardson scored a penalty for  giving them the lead with only 20 seconds to go

smart tactic from  coach during the timeout allowed the team to create a gap for the right winger Areia who was unlucky but also was facing the smart french GK Bolzinger who open the far angle and blocked it at the end giving  a save deserved Bronze medal

 

technically the shot from the wing can be saved but I think Areia lost his technique when he didn’t catch the pass correctly then his focus was more on his steps and not to step on the line instead of looking at the goal.. anyway ..  deserved great appreciation in this tournament and  as a more experienced team deserved the bronze medal

Besides the incredible sport result by finishing 4th at the World Championship,  national team managed to do the unthinkable: to gather portuguese people's attention to a sport other than football, so much that the semi final against Denmark was the most viewed tv show of the day in Portugal.

 

In fact, to be able to make the Prime Minister and the President of the country to go to the bronze medal match of a sport that is not football truly reveals how this guys made this event popular in our country.

 

Yesterday they landed back in  and this was the reception:

 

 

 

 

 

 

Yes of course this looks like a joke next to Croatia celebrations, but you need to understand this is a 100% football-only country so having someone besides the players families waiting for them in the airport is already big enough for , so this one was really nice

I agree. I wanted Croatia - Portugal final, even though I support Denmark 

 

Overall, it was a great tournament. Croatia won first WCh medal since 2013, some emerging nations have done well. Maybe 32 teams is a bit too much, but variety of teams and matches are proper. 

 

We all know Poland is in a deep hole, it doesn't look good in case of Spain as well. They didn't make it out of the group at EHF Euro (13th place), now they were far from quarterfinal (18th). They won Olympic bronze, of course

it's not exactly the correct thread

 

WCH U 17 first edition  will be held this month, but the format and participants are very strange:

- only 12 teams!

- why 3 teams from Africa and 3 from Asia while Europe are just 2

 

It maybe just a trial version but I presume it will be very weak and could kill the idea.
