p.s. the next men's Sabre world cup stage (originally to be held in Padua, ITA from March 6th through March 8th) has been officially cancelled (actually, postponed to undefined date...however, surely it won't be held before the end of the OQP anymore) because of Coronavirus, which is spreading very quickly in that area of North-East Italy...

What does this mean for the qualification? Every World Cup result will count instead of the 4 best out of 5?

I assumed our federation is not aware of that. 3 of our fencers stayed in Poland to travel to Italy later just to participate in that World Cup. the way the virus is spreading so fast and Iranians (or those who traveled to Iran) are discovered being sick in different countries , there is fear that other countries may put a blanket ban on Iranian citizens. they are not sure if they can come back to Europe again if they come home

the decision was taken only yesterday...it's quite normal that nobody is aware of that, yet...;)

no, idea...:mumble:

I'd rather wait for an official statement from FIE...hoping that they decide quickly what they want to do...

If I were them, I'd simply add the next event to the original OQP...it's only a question of going a couple of weeks outside the original schedule and it wouldn't affect in any form the Olympic preparation of the teams involved, meanwhile cutting the number of useful tournaments could prove unfair for the teams right on the edge of making it through or not...

but I'm not FIE...

by the way, tournaments cancelled or not, :KOR South Korea are actually already mathematically qualified in any case, not only "virtually"...

and if Padua's tournament is not somehow replaced, also :HUN Hungary are already mathematically in...

    • Hey guys, I contribute Skeleton articles for a new winter-sports focused website called "All things Snow".   I was wondering if any of you could please spare a few moments to read my latest article on the World Cup finale in Altenberg a few weeks ago.   Any feedback on length, content, or just general tips will be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to implement them in my Olympic Skeleton recap pieces. Thanks!   https://allthingssnow.net/2026/01/19/pfeifer-and-wyatt-win-the-finale-meylemans-and-weston-seal-crystal-globes/

    • I think there was a feeling before the obstacle course was introduced that really, really solid endurance runners were starting to dominate - in Triathlon you might call it the Alex Yee conundrum. Personally, I don't mind at all if the 'martial' elements are reemphasised as that is the real 'soul' of the sport - Triathlon, Marathon and Road cycing are there for genuine endurace, MP is in some senses a 'soldiery' test - one reason I thought Judo might have been a better addition than the obstacle course. But placing a higher emphasis on the fight bits over the flight bits seems a legitimate idea - though it should also increase the X-country nature of the run so that the test of a fresh shooter at the beginning is rather different from the test of a knackered one at the end. I quite like the artificial hill in rio.
