Not really related to IOC, but the sports federations.

In the past day, both FIG and IFSC have rebranded.  I now present to you World Gymnastics and World Climbing.  I wonder how long until all the sports have rebranded like this.  (Hopefully Fencing and Equestrian will be soon so that I can stop trying to remember if it's FEI or FIE.)

FIFA will most likely remain FIFA though. This trend of 'World Whatever' is downright stupid and laughable.

I do think the slogan of 'We get the World Climbing' that WC established is a nice play on words at least.  :)

(And now that I've typed WC, now we might have to decide whether that's climbing, curling, cycling...)

ITF will rebrand to World Tennis soon too if I remember correctly.

Organizations that have loftier purposes than the Olympics probably won't follow suit.  Seems like it's probably more likely to be more individual sports (like athletics or swimming or gymnastics) and less about the team sports.  FIFA, FIBA, IIHF, etc.  I doubt they're going to make any changes.

Sweden quite commonly rejects qualified quotas if they believe the athlete has no chance of reaching top 8.

:NED & :NZL also have severe "Worlds' Top xxx" criteria.  Have seen :NZL cyclists crying because they did not make the grade in a World Championship Keirin B race.

They don't all need to do, but those that for historic reasons are stuck with French abbreviations - backwards, from the English POV - and French names of sports that are different from the normal English ones probably see the necessity.

Appreciate what they are trying to achieve but not sure the IOC is going to intervening in how NOC select their athletes.

Global Athlete demand IOC ensure fairness

What's the story with :SWE? - Looking at the list of signatories, seems to be a lot of Swedish athletes.

I do think they have a point, the selection criteria that :SWE, :NZL and :NED have now are completly unecessary in an era of limited quotas and they only serve to make Olympic competition worse.

Not that there aren't circumstances where rejecting quotas make sense (retirements, injury, some continental quotas in particularely weak continents), but fundamentally, if you qualify for the Olympics you should get to go.
