Oh, it’s an absolute mess clearly. To be honest, I was certain Senegal would be able to host in 2022. I have been impressed with the last few African multi-sports games. I thought the continent could get this done.

It was already extremely unfair that this event was only every four years. The only way to make an event for 14-18 year olds “fair” is to hold it anualy or every two years at least.

I'm very, very angry now. No Junior Worlds in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics in 2021, no YOG in 2022. I've never really been a huge fan of the Olympics (it's not a secret I only care about artistic and rhythmic gymnastics), but I enjoy the YOG for what is is. Terrible decision.

If the IOC was smart about this, they’d immediately be asking Cali, Barranquilla, or Medellin to host. Colombia is the China of Pan America right now. They can’t get enough of these events. They have modern venues that are the current size for the Games. I’d bet they’d be very happy to host, even on short notice.

2022 YOG will be cancelled or what?

It doesn’t seem like they have a plan at the moment. I’ve not been impressed with the IOC’s organizational skills lately.

    • Handy geography lesson.
    • We´ll see. anyway, I hope hope so.   It was her first career senior bout, maybe a bit too early, to be thrown in the lion´s den, but if all this will result in a medal in LA 28 I am all in

    • @hckošice, even though Tomankova lost, she had a good fight against Costa, I think soon she and Babulfath will be the stars of -48kg.

    • Yeah, we have such a strong crop of Juniors, that we can’t take them all. They all have exciting trajectories but to predict what Junior swimmers will is always difficult. Better to let them all swim together at Juniors than rocketing them all up to seniors and swimming a prelim and going home.
    • Hanlon is the most unlucky, in my opinion. Aside from relay cover, she's the 50m champ and they made a point of including consideration for those events being in LA for the other discretionary picks. Essentially she has the same case for selection as Max Morgan (albeit without the trajectory right now).   Blocksidge's form was way off this week (compared to her previous bests). Obviously being still young you could put that down to relative inexperience. Still, she has World and European Juniors that she could still be selected for this summer. There's an argument that performing well at those might be as beneficial as going to Singapore.   That said, I'm happy that they did take a bunch of discretionary picks. That's not always been the case.
