There was an official Zakopane bid for 2006 and then Krakow/Poprad in Slovakia for 2022 was a late withdrawal. The biggest issue in Poland is there's like one road connecting Krakow & Zakopane and the 50km drive is notoriously jammed all year long here. The entire world would get stuck in Krakow if it came to hosting the Olympics here 

 

all funding for the 2026 Games won't come from the Italian government...

 

it will come part from private investors (most of the biggest Italian companies have asked to become partner of the Organizing Committee -that's where I expect some circus...now all our politicians will try to get a place in it), part from the Regional government of Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-South Tyrol (the 3 richest areas of the Country, which have more money than Countries like Switzerland and Austria, to name a couple)...

 

there won't be any increase of our public debt because of these Games...our debt will still increase day after day for very much different reasons (military expenses first, then many other things..but this is not the place to discuss the problems of the Italian economical politics)...

let's get back to basics...and you all would discover that Italy is way better than USA, Canada and all the other non-European Nations in almost all the real snow sports (alpine skiing, cross-country skiing -maybe not nowadays, but a few years ago it was a different story- biathlon, alpine disciplines snowboard, sliding sports -except for skeleton, which, guess what? it's not a "traditional" Olympic sliding sport like bobsleigh and luge)...

That's rich coming from a country that relies heavily on short track too? I see that Canada has scored ca. half of their medals in the non-traditional events as well? Guess that doesn't bother you so why should it bother Italy?

The point Im trying to make is Italy depends on "newer" events as much as Canada/USA. Italy's success isn't exclusive to "traditional events"

Arianna Fontana is a world class talent though. She's won 8 of Italy's 15 Olympic medals in these "newer" events (incl. three relays). So they don't depend on newer events, they have one athlete who elevates the whole event. One athlete, that's all (safe to say no relay medals without Fontana IMO). They have won the most medals in cross country but it's a one-nation show these days and they have basically one legit medal hope in Pellegrino.
