To be fair, the hosts being top seeds instead of getting seeded according to their World Ranking is the only real drawback. Other than that, the qualification system in Volleyball is pretty good. This wasn't always the case in the past.

Happy that our team played to the end and fought for the win. Any win is needed for us, no matter how insignificant it may seem, since we've lost so, so much in the last 5-6 years. 

 

In the end, we did better, than i expected after the disastrous Euro. But after seeing the missed opportunities in the Poland and Argentina matches, things could have been much better. Every time, that small team mentality in big situations...

 

By the way, now our Canadian users know how difficult it is to watch a BG match, with mire ups and downs, than an American rollercoaster.

TBF we also had Poland and Argentina, which evens it out.

 

Had high hopes for this Canadian squad, pre-tournament thought there was a slim chance they could overtake Argentina for the final quota, but had them finishing in third place. Beating Netherlands in 5 and Argentina in 4, along with taking Poland (!) to 5 (ok… Sliwka, Leon, and Fornal weren’t playing for the majority of the match if at all, but their bench is still solid) was better than I could’ve ever expected (at that point, thought that would’ve been enough). After Belgium beat Canada in an embarrassing one sided showdown, thought our chances were over. Then, Bulgaria beats Belgium in 5, with excellent Bulgarian blocking, and a Sokolov masterclass. Slim chance that Mexico ended up beating Canada, knew our Paris berth was pretty much guaranteed at that point. So happy for the guys! Will be following all their matches at the Olympics.

It is very well possible, that  gets a Q. For this, they need to defeat Iran 3:0 or 3:1 and hope for a 3:2 win of Italy against Brazil.

Gold medal in VNL, gold medal at European Championships, Olympic ticket and place first in Group here and also in ranking, curse at European Championships and curse against Slovenia broken. All in one season for those guys!
