Drawing of lots? Wasn't there going to be a fixed pool composition based on the rankings? Also let's see who is going to be "lucky" and get the Brazil group :d

I also think it weird of "draw", let's see what happen on next week's draw live streaming.

Qualifying tournaments will be held in Japan, China and Brazil from 30 September - 8 October 2023.

The group draw will be held on Friday, March 17th. Apparently FIVB might drop the long-standing serpentine rankings system but nobody still knows...

If the Japanese money still counts the most, they will never drop the serpentine system...

if I'm not wrong, the Japanese teams would both get the easiest draw and will host the sponsor-favourite Italy as among the women as among the men.

men's draw with serpentine should be something like this (Russia are not included):

    A          B           C

:BRA   :JPN   :CHN
:USA   :ITA   :POL
:ARG   :SLO   :IRI
:NED   :CUB   :SRB
:TUR   :CAN   :UKR
:TUN   :MEX   :GER
:EGY   :BEL   :CZE
:QAT   :FIN   :BUL

OK, now we have more news...

the draw for the OQTs will be Tomorrow, March 17th at 1 p.m. CET (Live for Free on FIVB Youtube Channel)

:RUS are OUT

the 24 teams will be divided into 8 pots with 3 teams each, according to the World Ranking.

however, the top 3 seeds will be the organizers of the 3 tournaments (also ranked according to the WR).

therefore, we will have a draw following this path:

seeded teams: the 3 hosts,:BRA (pool A), :JPN (pool B), :CHN (pool C)

then, we will have 7 pots with 3 teams each one (always according to the WR): 1 team from each pot will be drawn in each pool to build the 3 8-team tournaments (the top 2 of each tournament will qualify to Paris 2024).

Pot #1: :ITA:POL:USA

Pot #2: :ARG:SLO:IRI

Pot #3: :SRB:CUB:NED

Pot #4: :TUR:CAN:UKR

Pot #5: :GER:MEX:TUN

Pot #6: :EGY:BEL:CZE

Pot #7: :BUL:FIN:QAT

is it possible to withdraw now ? I mean we got the toughest group possible. it's impossible to qualify and more importantly we will lose lots of ranking points here. not playing is better than losing

I wish we could withdraw and focus on the Asian Games instead :d (more or less at the same time)

    • Yes, he is ones of the first supporters of Milei, owner of one of the most important stock market of Argentina (Bull market), he was peronist and for "unknown reasons" start to be libertarian.   Even being libertarian in my case, i have to admit that him is one of the dumbest of "Milei supporters" and a clown when  he is in TV, he made me feel  embarrassed in many occasions.   Camila Giorgi being with him is.......inconceivable.
    • Ya but the replacement is Pat Bondi, a choice that is only better in so far as Pat Bondi isn't credibly accused of having had sex with multiple underaged girls.   Also, you might recognize this name: Pete Hoekstra has been nominated to be the US ambasador to Canada.
    • Camila Giorgi has a new BF Ramiro Marra. Apparently he's some politician/journalist from Argentina. One of Milei's supporters dare I say? @LDOG@konig
    • Skeleton Tour moves on to Yanqing  this weekend.  Asian Cup races tomorrow, then the World Cup on Saturday, and then possibly more Asian Cup next weekend before everyone moves over to Altenberg for the start of the full Skeleton / Bobsleigh tour again.
    • 2-1.   But it's good to have a great champion in the squad. I've been waiting for this my whole life. I wish we had such stars in every sport.
    • But he beat Mouat, who seems to be almost unbeatable
    • Argentina has a really solid lineup, especially if they have prepared seriously for this event. Of course they don't have a champion like we do, but in this format it is enough to win 1 match to play the decisive doubles.
    • Today we must to beat Argentina. It looks like Sinner will have to win all the singles and doubles for us to defend the title. So far, the 2nd and 3rd favorites before the tournament have already been eliminated: Esp and USA.
