We did it! Wooowww!!! As always they didn't make it easy but this time they held on for the win!

I don't even care that we won bronze, our girls are going to the Olympics for the first time since 2008!

So many heartbreaking losses in quota games since then. 2012 against Spain when we were World Champions in 2011 and that's how FINA changed their qualification system. Then 2016 against Russia with a 9-7 lead with 2 minutes left and 10-9 lead with 4 seconds left and lost on penalties. Then 2021 when we led the Dutch at halftime and didn't score a single goal the rest of the game.

It will be nice to be relaxed during the World Championships and not having to stress about either one of our teams.

They did it for themselves and also for the past generations! Some of the best players in the world in the last 10-15 years like Avramidou, Kouvdou, Manolioudaki never got to go to the Olympics. And so many others.

So nice to see people like Diamantopoulou who was expected to make her Olympic debut in 2012 as a 16 yo, finally getting to go as a 28 yo! And Asimaki 16 years later in her "second career." Also girls like the Plevritou sisters, Eleftheriadou, Xenaki who shed many tears in past heartbreaks, most of them as teenagers at first, finally getting to go to the Olympics!

I am sorry for our Italian friends. This was so important for us though. I hope you guys qualify via Doha because you deserve it especially for beating USA last year!

Yes we did get destroyed by Hungary, and would probably get thrashed by the other 3 you mentioned above, but there are other factors such as luck of the draw in the knockouts and shock results that could sneak us into a spot. I don't expect us to qualify by any means, but being the 4th best unqualified team in a 16 team tournament that includes a mix of qualified and unqualified teams still gives us a half decent chance.

The draw is already out. You are in the group with Italy and Canada who will probably beat you comfortably, then in the knockout have to face the loser of Australia/Hungary and if you somehow win that, that is only to make the quarterfinals where you will be by far the weakest link. Congratulations on your Doha qualification though!

:ITA might have played 3 horrific periods, might have made a lot mistakes on offense...people might have a bad day, refs can make mistakes...they can even be biased sometimes (and this should never happen in any case)...

but not to the point the :ESP and :NED refs acted tonight...they literally killed :ITA from the beginning to the end of the match...

disgusting...

refs like that are the worst spot for the sport of waterpolo :redcard:

p.s. congrats to :GRE

16 years later. After a lot of pain and suffering especially in the last 12 years. This means so much to the girls of this team and also the girls of previous teams who never got the chance to go to the Olympics. We missed London, Rio, and Tokyo but we will be in Paris!

Surprised that no one has mentioned this by now, but :NED defeated :ESP 8-7 in the gold medal match for anyone wondering

Hahaha, all Dutch fans are still partying here in Eindhoven. Wonderful tournament for our girls with a great finish. Next month the WCh in Doha starts, not really looking forward to it. Too much tournaments in a short period.
