Summer Olympic Games 2020 Qualification Systems

Recommended Posts

10 weightclasses is a lot for one sport at the Olympics, especially when taekwondo and wrestling both have a reduction of events relative to their world championships.

You gotta get used to this kind of filthy "politically correctness"; that's the future we'll be experiencing in every domain.

On-topic: have you seen women's boxing at heavyweight categories? it's priceless as a source of fun

You are right,PC is actually making things quite opposite of intended. In every domain,as you said. We will have 'equal' games but price will be very high. Many sports are ruined by those PC changes. We dont have double trap beacuse only men participated. They will evict 50 km RW because its not appropriate for women. And so on... Instead we have some boring mix competitions, and i am sure that hard core fans like me will hate them.

Maybe its my age but with all these changes,my level of interest for OG is at least 30% smaller than before. If Bach contunues his agenda we will have OG that last 7 days, with 5000 athletes,60% women,15 sports. Those games will certainly be cheap, women friendly. Maybe new generations will like those OG, i am sure that i will hate it. I remember good old glorious days.

As a matter of fact,i did. It was 2011,some Russian girl was fighting. It was comic and tragic at the same time. Even men boxing is sometime hard to watch but girls...it was just cringy.

Please watch this

If the lights light up exactly at the correct moment, he was definitely first, since his light went on first. Not sure if those lights are 100% accurate though?

Furthermore, AIBA decides on new Olympics weight classes for Men; dropping two categories.

Source: https://www.aiba.org/aiba-technical-competition-rules/  Please refer to AIBA Technical & Competition Rules (ENG), chapter 2.2

or to Articles like: https://indianexpress.com/article/sports/sport-others/aiba-olympics-weight-classes-boxing-5615327/

Briefly: Light Fly (49 kg) is dropped and Bantam (56 kg) / Light (60 kg) / Light Welter (64 kg) are merged to Feather  (57 kg) / Light (63 kg).

They dropped categories only now? I thought that was done and dusted years ago....dropping categories and events a little over a year before the Olympics, that is beyond ridiculous :yikes:

With AIBA now all but stripped of its status as the Olympic IF for boxing (IOC Session ratification of that decision is likely a formality), the only certainties at this point are that the sport will have 286 berths across 13 weight divisions (8 men, 5 women) with qualification pushed back to next year.

The IOC aim to - by the end of this month - publish a qualification system that has the confirmed weight limits, quota distribution and qualification events.

On another note, at least part of the 2019 European Games QS is no longer correct.

In contrast to what was published previously (admittedly before the Olympic QS was published), 2020 canoe sprint berths will not be awarded at the regatta in Minsk.

    • sure! in every Italian bedroom you normally have every kind of table, chairs, furniture, tv screen  to me, this really look an unfinished room, you normally don't see such a sad place even when you buy a new house
    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
