I'm starting to think Abdevali is a masochist, he just loves to lose dramatically and then protest like hell ! he had everything under control. Huyseynov was dead tired and then bang. this is happening every year for him. he will most probably win the bronze because the Kazakh guy got injured and the other guys in repechage are too weak. the first day was disappointing for Iran, only 1 wrestler for the bronze and another one in the repechage. I'm afraid we are not going to win any gold medal in Greco. none of the remaining guys are capable of that (at least that's my prediction and I hope I'm wrong of course)

Azizli losing to the Kazakh guy was the biggest surprise of the evening session, he was counting on the refs to get the first point but when they awarded the first caution to the Kazakh guy (unfortunately that was an Iranian referee) that ruined his whole plan. he gave up some childish throws. and interestingly Mnatsakanian couldn't make it to the final even with that super draw.

i'm not following the event but looks like :ALG  has repechage in 55 kg , right ? any chance for Bronze ?

You're correct. He had to defeat :AZE Azizli who is defending title here, also bronze medalist from this year European Championships.

draw looks unbelievably unfair for all 3 Olympic weights tomorrow, the main problem is UWW stupid format, for example if we have 40 wrestlers in the list, there will be 8 wrestlers in each quarter draw, except the last one with 16 !!! obviously the last one is supposed to be much tougher.

since all semifinalists will win the quota, I will break into each quarterdraw

67

1) Artem Surkov couldn't even dream about such easy draw, from the rest I only recognize Mete Nemes and even Nemes is no match for Surkov. I think Surkov will win this quarter and the semifinal. therfore one of those guys will climb through repechage to the bronze medal match and we will have a lucky Olympian from this part. I think Nemes is much better than the rest.

2) the second part isn't any better. but at least there will be some kind of competition, I think the Kazakh guy Shermakhambet who will have some supports from the refs will be the favorite. I think you never can underestimate Japanese wrestlers in lighter weights.

3) obviously this part is harder than the top half combined (even though still nothing compared to the last quarter) Sahakyan from Poland is the clear favorite. I think he won't have much problems entering the quarterfinal. there is some good wrestlers here to challenge him, Bolkvadze, Ismailov or Aslanyan.

4) just wow, you can see almost everybody here. Stabler, the Olympic champion Borrero, Chunayev, Euro Champion Yuksel, 2018 Euro Champ Mihut, twice world champion Ryu and few other good wrestlers like Islamov. I feel sorry for our youngster Tab, no chance for him here. it's hard to pick someone but if Stabler makes the weight properly to me he is the favorite.

my picks for Olympic quotas: :RUS:SRB:KAZ:POL:GER:TUR

87

1) looks very easy for Beleniuk, he is the gold medal favorite with any draw but since I expect him to make it to the final, one of the other guys from this quarter will win the quota !! I think there is a chance for all other 7 wrestlers, but I think it will be between Belarus or Croatia

2) we have 8 good or very good wrestlers in this quarter, much harder than the first one, I can give almost equal chances to 5 of them, Kudla, Abbasov, Abdusalam, the Georgian guy and our Taheri. only one of these guys will make it to the Olympics because of the draw (unless the winner surprises Beleniuk in the semifinal) I give more chance to Abbasov and Kudla. somehow Kudla always gets help from the refs.

3) Viktor Lorincz is probably very happy now with his Olympic quota almost secured. this is a VERY easy draw for him. maybe his second round match KGZ/LTU will be a bit hard. just that one. it will be funny if Lorincz makes it to the final. one of these guys will win a quota through repechage !

4) this one is harder, we have Basar, Komarov, Assakalov, Shahinyan, Hietaniemi and couple more. I think Russia struggles more in this weight to win the quota.

my picks for Olympic quotas: :UKR:BLR:AZE:HUN:KGZ:TUR

97

1) Evloev didn't need an easy draw but he got one. and again one of the other guys will luckily win a quota.

2) this one is even easier than Evloev !! I think this is for Kajaia unless he wrestles very poor. the top half is much much easier . both quarters look like a joke to me.

3) I think there are 7 wrestlers with good chance here, even that Honduras wrestler isn't that bad. I had to think a lot to find a pick here. this is wide open

4) my reaction when I saw our wrestler in this quarter "are you kidding me ? " out of 3 wrestlers why none of ours got something easier. all 3 of them are in the toughest quarter !! (Taheri at 87 is in the 2nd toughest) obviously with baby giant Aleksanyan, he is the clear favorite for the quota. I had a hard time to pick the other guy. because Aleksanyan most probably will go to the final.

my picks for Olympic quotas: :RUS:SRB:UZB:GEO:ARM:TUR

and I have to admit some of picks were really random. I see I give 3 to Turkey but I'm sure they are not going to win all 3 possible quotas.

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics
    • Super Round Results   21/11    b.   2-0  b.   9-1   22/11    b.   8-2  b.   9-6   nothing is decided yet, all teams still have a thoretical chance to make the Gold Medal match   Tomorrow, the last day of the Super Round sees  facing the  at Noon local time (4 a.m. CET) and  facing  at 7 p.m. local time (11 a.m. CET)   the medal games are scheduled for Sunday, BMM at Noon local, GMM at 7 p.m. local
    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
