Ah, ITG, who seem to have some sort of OCD which forces them to always have to write 'here', because for some reason they think their articles are more valuable if they write them from a hotel in the city of an event :d

Really the only sort of professional written media I know who always have to mention they are present

Helpful thread for those unfamiliar with Rule 40.

Still wondering, what happens if - say - the local bakery from an athletes' town who sponsors him/her posts "Congratulations on a great result in Japan!" and "Proud of Athlete, you've represented your country very well!"? Does the IOC have some sort of power to force said local bakery to do anything?

No, but the athletes may be punished.

In reality, a local baker in Ireland or the Netherlands or wherever posting it won’t even be noticed. They’re more worried about adidas or nike and the major global marketers

Yeah this being against huge companies makes sense, but the IOC wouldn't be the IOC if they didn't make a huge deal about the local car repair shop posting something :p

I wonder what punishment the athlete could get. I mean, surely they can't take away the results, so if an athlete is retiring anyway after the Olympics, what's to stop them? :d

    • It's an interesting question, Norway is certainly expanding their efforts into a number of new sports. So, that cannot help but to peal off a few more natural athletes. I know their training methods are kinda rocking the world in a number of summer endurance sports.  I can't really speak to they dynamics of their development program. Their men's nordic programs largely always seem to be ridiculously deep, overwhelmingly so the last decade or so.

    • But it seems to us that Norway wasn't as strong in Lillehammer 1994 as it was later? And not just in women's events. Generally, until 2000, Norway was much weaker in women's biathlon and women`s cross-country skiing. I remember in the 1990s, Italy's biggest rivals, Belmondo and di Centa, were Russia, when Norway somewhere further back and only in the classic style. Bente Martinsen- Skari, this is their first really strong girl in cross country, just about 2000, just like Liv Grete Skielbreid- Pioree in women`s biathlon at similar times.   Do you think, that is there any hope that thanks to the popularity of Haaland and football in general in Norway in recent years, winter sports such as biathlon or cross-country skiing will lose a little bit, becouse that?

    • This suggestion  @Dnl  made some months ago has also been implemented.   In each club, I have added a "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" record which takes the content from the Qualification by Nation tracker of that NOC.   People who see it can not edit the content, but it will be automatically updated once @Matej will update the record, and if you notice any mistake feel free to report it to Matej or in the record itself.   Club's admins can now edit the name of the section into their own language or change the spelling, I have used "Milano Cortina 2026 Qualification Tracker" for all the clubs. To do so, go inside the section, then click on "Manage Club"-"Edit this database Record" and change the name of the section:     By the way, if you are not a club's admin but you would like to edit things inside the club just let me know and I will give you the rights to do so. There can be more "admins" inside the club with the rights to edit and organize the sections, and that's not a role that require time or commitment.   Let's try to make all the clubs active during MiCo and when the LA28 qualifications will start!
