Even if the did allow crowds in Tokyo they would not be allowed to cheer etc so it would be eerie in any case.

Of all the rules, that one seemed the least realistic to maintain anyway :p

At some point people are not going to just clap when someone runs a world record or something.

Interesting regulations...so in a few sports we could have both finalists winning silver and a semifinal loser winning gold. Let's hope nothing of this sort will happen :fingers:

Hello 2016 men's pole vault competition :p:(

At least there is no facade there. Unlike some other hosts, who claim their fans cheer for everyone, and yet even the home officials get more cheers than any foreign athlete - no matter what they do.

There seems to be a real possibility that at least the volunteers could be in the stands of the stadiums. 70,000 volunteers will take part in the Olympics. and the organizing committee is working on exception for them to be allowed to enter the different venues during the competitions

After the complete Canoe Slalom team last week (4 athletes) today it was the turn of Peter Gelle (Canoe Sprint K1-1000m) to fly to Tokyo (5th athlete), accompanied by his coach and couple of others Canoe sprint team staff members. The remaining Canoe Sprint team around the K4 will depart a couple of days later

:JPN Hideki Matsuyama tested positive for COVID and is out of The Open but should be fine for the Olympics? I picture him as the potential face of the Games (other than some judo stars).

considering what happened to Jon Rahm a few weeks ago, I'd say that not only he'll be fine, but also that we already have our Olympic gold medallist...
