Entry list for final qualification events (European, African and Asian regattas) are out

Europe and Africa http://www.trofeoprincesasofia.org/en/default/races/race-inscriptions

Asia http://www.ac2016.asiansailing.org/index.php/competitor-information/who-is-registered

So, who is the biggest hero of this? It's Algeria. :d They have very wisely used the fact that ISAF has introduced continental Olympic quotas for the first time and the fact that some sailing classes are completly non-existent in Africa. They are the only African nation in women's 470, men's 49er,  women's 49er FX and mixed Nacra 17, so they are guaranteed all of those quotas! They will compete in 7 out of 10 classes in Rio (11 sailors in total). To put it in the perspective, Algeria has never qualified a single sailor for the Olympics before.

In previous week were World Championships in RS:X and two gold medal in men's and women's event are for Polish sailors (Piotr Myszka and Małgorzata Białecka)  Both of them are chosen to Olympic team as well :)

but how again WC? It was in october or november 2015? I think that WC in Olympic year is not necessarily ( only in sport where is ranking important is ok)

Yeah, I know it's silly, but in sailing World Championships are every year (even in Olympic years)!

In 2015 was World championships for all classes, in the same date and place, such championships are held only once by 4, in pre-olympic year, I think. In all other years are separate world championships in each class.

The danish 49er with Jonas Warrer and Anders Thomsen which was set to go to the Olympics has broken up.

Instead Jonas Warrer will be trying with a collaboration with Christian Peter Lübeck who was a part of the Nacra 17 ending up in 2nd place in the national qualification.

This makes the danish participation in the class in Rio uncertain, as the national federation will not send a boat if it isn't decently competitive.

    • The only ones complaining about the short track refs are Italians, imo. Not even on this forum, but in general, from what I've been seeing on live chats and other social media sites. That says a lot to be honest. I suspect it's partially due to them not performing to the high standard they're expected to perform at especially at the Olympics. The refs make a lot of mistakes for everyone, there's no bias against or towards anyone    Plus, Italy have won 6 medals already.... the most you've won at a Worlds since 2016.
    • For me they gave Canada the gold in the relay in exchange for a 1000-meter dsq gold for Dandjinou, that's how I see it. It was a battle between Kor and Can on 2 of this case. It's hard to say why that last dsq for Kor was in relay? Of course, Italy win bronze thanks for that, but that's not really important. It would have been better if the referees had just stayed out of the results and left it as it was decided for fight on the ice.

    • the quata for europe or australia is from the primer 12, where the top 20 teams will participate, sadly  is the 21th team so the only slight chance for us in my opinion is if: we get top 2 at the european championship (not including  hopefully if they get the quata), then somehow win the final qualification tournament against i assume  and one of    the chances for us are slim, i think about 4 other team sports  have a better chance in in my opinion(and the most team sports we ever had was one, and it was the last two time after a long time )

    • well, Cuba and Venezuela for sure...   Iran is a different question, but I hope in 2 years all this war shit is done and dusted and at least in the sports world everything is gonna be OK
    • In my opinion the Italian team has been playing above expectations since last year after several years of decline. Last year, we advanced to the first division at the European Championships and now they're playing very close matches against the strong India and Scotland. We a little miss a potential to do more – we are only 18th in the world rankings. Our men's team's performance in this sport is much weaker.
