Bullshit!! Can you please stop bothering of those tiny details? The meaning is clear very less nations play most of the sports competitively and that's there in quite a lot of sports.

:offtopic:

I realize cricket is the most popular sport in India but c'mon! It's just a relict from the British Empire days. If France occupied India for all those centuries instead you wouldn't even sniffed this game at all :dunno:

Despite there being a team event, that's just not a team sport though :p

Haan true, but anytime a nation does not need to be good in all or any team sports. Some nations aren't that good in team sports while some are developing so no credit should be taken from any nation for any performance.

I don't disagree at all. In fact I have played more badminton and basketball than cricket in my school days

I don't agree with you about the popularity of cricket from British period. Only a handful of people like Kings and elites were very much into cricket before independence. For your information hockey was the most popular game in India. As India won the world cup in1983 as an underdog the popularity of cricket boosted, in retrospect as hockey shifted to turfs India lost its strong hold and the fans shifted to cricket.

National team success usually boosts any sport's popularity. And cricket wasn't part of the Olympics while the World Cup only started in the 70s so they were very late to the party. But I don't think the British rule over India, Bangladesh & Pakistan has nothing to do with cricket being popular in this very specific region of Asia. It has everything to do with this. Likewise cricket being popular in South Africa, Zimbabwe & even Namibia over in Africa - the three countries on the continent with a relatively significant white presence in society over the years.

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
