Women's sabre has become an insane mess ever since the Russian ban. This is why I feel like we can win even the gold in Paris, like how the girls somehow ended up with the gold at the WCh, but we can also fail to qualify.

so, Turin Foil GP is back after 3 years...but it's like it's never been away.

 

in fact, both 2020 Champions came back and confirmed themselves as the Queen and King of this tournament.

 

Italy got a silver and a bronze in both the men and women's events, but the supposed no.1 (and 2) of the team failed to make the medal round, which is not a very good news.

 

also to be said, youngster Filippo Macchi is for real...after Paris, just another excellent performance (even if he lost once again an already won match against an American guy -it was Massialas in Paris, it's Meinhardt in Turin...you just can't waste a 12-6/13-7 or so lead so often, even when you're young and inexperienced at the top level).

however, he reminds me the young Cassarà sometimes...lefthanded, tall, powerful, he likes a very offensive style of fencing...

we'll see if we've really found a new jewel...
