Sprint Canoeing Qualification for Summer Olympic Games 2016

Recommended Posts

Brazil won the men's K2 200m. However, one of the athletes also won Brazil the quota in the K1 200m meaning the quota will be transferred to Cuba.

It really hurts that we didnt qualify in mens C2 1000, because we are the defending olympic champion and since 1988 we always won a medal in this discipline (gold in 1992, 1996, 2004 and 2012). I cant say that its really shocking, Kuschela ended his career and Kretschmer was injured all the time. Sadly we couldnt compete with our best boat (Rebstock/Brendel), because Brendel already qualified in C1 1000m. We will send a very small team with only 11 athletes, but the good thing is that all of our athletes have a realistic chance to win a medal. Our goal should be to win 4 golds (mens C1 1000m, mens K2 1000m, womens K2 500m and womens K4 500m) and 6 medals in total (mens K2 200m, mens K1 1000m, mens K4 1000m).

According to Latvian Olympic Committee, they have received a reallocation in men's K1 200m (as we expected that it might happen).

Hungary exceeded the maximum number of athletes in men's kayak so they returned the men's K1 quota, which went to Latvia.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.
