Sprint Canoeing ICF World Championships 2022

Greece not even sending a team. With our coasts, lakes and rivers, we should really try to do better at this sport.

Most of our rowers are from northern Greece, I wish we would try to develop this sport in southern Greece (as there aren't really many rowing clubs there outside of the Athens area and a few islands). It's a wasted opportunity.

It's really difficult to be good at both rowing and canoeing at the same time. If you look at your nearby countries of similar size and resources that seems to be the trend, focusing on just one.

yeah, if you look at the powerhouses in both Rowing and Canoeing, only Germany and New Zealand are as good in both disciplines, with Poland and Australia trying to keep the pace, but still much more committed to one of the 2...

even Countries like USA, Great Britain and Italy are heavily unbalanced towards one of the 2 sports (in that case, Rowing)...meanwhile Hungary, Russia and Belarus are almost inexistent in Rowing (having just a few one-hit wonders rather than consistent programs)...

Awesome display of power by Catalin Chirila in the heats of canoe single 500 and 1000 meters. After so many years, it seems that Romania will finally have a star in the canoe sprint events.

Our male K4 boat won't be in the final... At this point I think it's safe to say that Hungary is simply unable to deliver good results in this event. We can actually miss the Olympic qualification in Men's K4, which would be a disaster.

The lineups of the finals in the Olympic events so far:

Women's K4 500m - :GBR  :HUN  :ESP  :NZL  :POL  :GER  :AUS  :MEX  :CAN

Men's K4 500m - :CAN  :SVK  :CZE  :GER  :ESP  :POL  :UKR  :FRA  :POR

Women's C2 500m - :MDA  :GER  :FRA  :CHN  :CUB  :UKR  :HUN  :CAN  :POL

Men's C2 500m - :FRA  :UKR  :CHN  :ITA  :POL  :ESP  :GER  :HUN  :LTU

Lol our guy won the heat but has a semifinal with Kopasz and Dostal.

3rd place, obviously.

Now lane 9 and probably finish between 7-9 in the final. Poor man has been making all major finals A last few years and always finishes close to bottom in them.

I'd say Lithuania is pretty good at balancing both rowing and canoeing and being competitive at both.

Key difference is that in canoe sprints we were mostly all in on the sprint distances, so with the Olympic changes we are just getting back on our feet right now.

One thing though, in Rowing we have good history in both men and women's events, but in canoeing sprint we've been sending men only to all of the major events for I don't know how many years now.

    • Congrats Diggins, well deserved! 👏   Too bad she fell on the last lap in the last race (as well as Karlsson also did x2).   For the future I would really like them to remove the bonus sprint points suring the race that almost makes more importance to the overall standings than the positions over the finish line. And get back to the same point system as the other FIS events. 30 gets points instead on 50, and 100-80-60... instead of this system. in this case Diggins deserves it and Sweden who of different reasons have missed pets of the season On purpose or not, does not deserve it. But it as it is now it may take 20 wins to catch up for one missed race (if the opponent is 2nd in each). Dahlqvist won the sprint cup without any individual wins (3rd overall) is one example of that.    There must be room to miss a race of any reason. If not, it Will not make people race more events, instead it might make skoters who already missed one weekend feel they are already too far behind so they light as well take less priority on the rest of the World cup season. Also skiiers who in Norway for example would be good enough for a top3 in the overall might not even be selected for many races due to the internal competition. Same for a skiier like Ebba Andersson who most likely would not qualify if she would be selected to go a sprint race. But she would still get a few points probably for rk 31-50, but because she would not make it in to the Swedish sprint team she Will lose a lot even compared to those who fail the sprint qualifications. Frida Karlsson another example, she would also probably have qualified most of the times but is most often not good enough to make the team. With more award to winning and making podiums and also less athletes scoring that would make it better I think. The scoring system in biathlon got some critics when they decided you have to count all races, but they at least increased the value of top positions meaning you could faster catch up a bad race/missed race, by a few podiums.
    • Great to see O’Connor on the podium again! Thats 4 major medals in the past 12 months (World Indoors x 2, Euro Indoors and World Championships).   Her strongest event is the javelin so she is going to continue to be a huge threat in the heptathlon this summer and she is still improving all the other events. Exciting times for her
    • Congrats to Diggins winning the WC in her final season
    • Call me mad, but it feels very strange to have made it all the way through a major championships without hearing how the results were going to lead to a slashing of funding for  sport.
    • Only Fabbri from Italy has disappointed and that's a bit concerning... In 3 of the last 4 major events (OG and 2x Indoor World Champ), he's performed significantly worse than he did on the entire season – he took bronze at the 2025 World Championships, but his result was also nothing special. His performance today is completely incomprehensible  (
