The Euro opens tonight with :ITA Italia against :ROU Romania under the night sky. Has someone checked the weather forecast for any potential rain? :p

as a proverb says: today's only raining down your back!

we're in the bright sunny 35°C range today in the planes in the north of Italy ;) :p

p.s. starting at 8 p.m., the game's likely over before we have a true night sky...I guess it would have been better to start at 9/9.15 p.m.

by the way, it's always a nice and prestigious landscape when you play at the Arena Scaligera in Verona, even if it's not an Opera

I'm sure :ITA Italia doesn't need to naturalize Russian players, but here we are

actually, Antropova is not a Russian "player"

she was born in Iceland from Russian parents and technically she's an Italian volleyball player, as she's been living here since she was 14

the problem is that she was called up by the Russian U-15 National team when she was eligible for that team (but she never played for them because she was already living in Italy) and therefore the FIVB and CEV were forced by the Russian protest to stop her from playing for :ITA already 3/4 years ago

all that mess went on until a few months ago the CAS ruled that she was actually a true Italian volleyball grown player and could play for our NT

then, she also had to wait a few more months because of the Italian burocracy, which is normally very complicated, but nowadays it's even more frustrating when it has to do with people coming from Countries like Russia, Cuba and all the non "politically pro West of the World" places

p.s. technically, we need a player like that more than oxygen, given that we don't have any power hitter (except for Egonu and all of her mental issues)

and I'm preparing the  after Mazzanti tonight made it clear that Antropova is the starting opposite and Egonu is just a reserve

if only we don't win this championship...:drama:

    • Canoe Sprint There is a now a cap of 5 athletes per gender in the kayak events (down from 6 in 2024). The World Championships has been replaced by the Olympic Qualification Rankings.   K2 lost 2 boat quotas while K4 has gained 1 boat quota. Quota distribution is quite complicated as it usually is for canoe sprint. They also force nations to compete in a minimum number of events based on the number of athletes qualified; 2 and 3 athletes per boat class must compete in 2 events, 4 must compete in all 3 events and 5 must compete in all 3 events and have two entries in the K1 event.
    • Wrestling will have a completely new format, I do not like the changes. ranking isn't really a good idea in this sport, this will force wrestlers to compete in so many events to collect points. which is not good for their health. specially with the current UWW ranking points distribution system which is plain stupid   they are also gifting 18 quotas to very weak countries by that last qualification event. but I understand their point of view. can't wait to see lots of Russian wrestlers compete for weak countries for that 1 available quota.
    • Canoe Slalom Quotas from men's/women's K1 have been moved to men's/women's KX1. K1 will now have 14 quotas while KX1 will have 10 quotas. C1 remains at 17 quotas. Athletes may participate in other events up to a maximum of 2 athletes per NOC.   The World Championship qualifier has been dropped in favour of the Olympic Qualification Rankings (7 K1, 10 C1, 3 KX1), afterwards you have the Continental Qualifiers (1 per boat) and then a new Global Qualifier (2 per boat).   There were a few changes regarding ways to ensure an athlete can only obtain 1 quota. The biggest being at each stage the boat priority is K1 > KX1 > C1 for the rankings and KX1 > K1 > C1 for the continental/global qualifiers. This basically means if the same athlete qualifiers in multiple boats then the quota will be given to the kayak over canoe.
    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA
