Yea I agree, and it looks like Rio could even step in for 2027.

We went from the largest city in a country to the 4th largest for 2027. With the size of these games, I don't think small cities like Winnipeg or Barranquilla can host now.

I don't know why Colombia didn't pick another city but I don't think Barranquilla will step down :mumble:

Rio already has a lot of the arenas done, but it would need another athletes village, which I guess isn't that hard to pull off.

Yea which is why it would be favoured for 2027 if Colombia pulls out. We shall see what happens. They have till Oct 29 to confirm.

Well maybe they don’t wish to step back, but in terms of venue quality, 2018 CAC Games lacked standards, including the athletes village which had tin roofs in some of its buildings.

Of course, people on the stands and atmosphere saved the games.

I’m sensing Panam Sports put the emphasis on improving some of those facilities or else, move the Games to another location.

With the support of the Brazilian Olympic Committee, there will be a "São Paulo house" in Santiago, where they should announce their plans in hosting the 2031 Pan American Games (source).

They should be the favorites.

Would be nice to see a multisport event in São Paulo.

Do you think they have plans to host the Olympics anytime soon? Rio concreted their plans with the success of 2007 Panamerican games.

São Paulo is kinda ugly but its a very nice, cosmopolite and very rich City, so, nothing is impossible in the next lets say, 20 years.

Venues arent an issue here. We have plenty of stadiums and arenas already built to host most of the Panamerican Sports. Even Surfing could be held in an artificial pool haha.

But I cant see Brazil trying to host Olympics again in a near future.

Yeah, IOC might need a hot minute to warm up to the idea of Brazil hosting again.

Now it's official: São Paulo is bidding to host the 2031 Pan American Games. I guess Rio's plans won't go any further?

@LuizGuilherme and @Laraja while São Paulo is a rich city with many venues, I would say they'll have much more work to be done than Rio in case they win the hosting rights. Anyway, I would love a multi-sport games in SP since I have family there - and they live pretty close to a subway station :p

Where do you think the Opening Ceremony would be?

I would love to have this event taking place in my city. As you said, so easy to go everywhere. But why do you think they would have much more work to do? The venus are basically done. The problem could be the distances from a village to the venues, but the public transportation usually works fine in these kind of events.

    • Honestly, it’s not very clear what is happening in Italy — anything could happen. There is extremely high turnout, and no pollster, politician, or newspaper had predicted it; now they’re all there throwing out data. No one has any idea why people voted, also because it was very technical and almost empty polling stations were expected. It will be interesting to understand whether this is a protest vote against the government or a protest vote against the judiciary.
