Long story short, there are actually a lot of medalist that failed to qualify. :p

Yes. Sanya Richards-Ross retired from the heats, and will miss her chance to defend the women's 400m title.

Canada's men's eights in rowing

Mark Oldershaw and Adam van Koeverden have yet to qualify in canoeing/kayaking.

Christine Giriard is still competing but with only one spot doesn't look like she will make the team.

I don't know if I'd count Canada's men's eights.  As far as I know, they disbanded the eights in order to concentrate on the smaller boats.  They haven't even had an entry in the men's eights in the last 3 World Championships, and I haven't seen them enter one in any major competition in a couple of years (besides the Pan Ams in Toronto last year, but I'm sure that was just put together for the home Games).

  • 2 weeks later...

:GER Helen Langehanenberg (equestrian dressage, bronze in the Team competition in 2012) failed to qualify

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

    • There is a transgender volleyball player here in Brazil; there was even a recent controversy (this year) when a city banned her from playing in a certain competition, which ended up in court, ultimately in her favor.   But the situation is much simpler than that; the reason for this decision is because of the two female boxers who won at Paris 2024 (who apparently are not transgender).

    • there were rumors about it for quite a while, but as I wrote, it was never confirmed so, it might well be just some haters throwing out some shit on her 🤷
    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • Athing Mu competed in the USA trials in 2024 and 2025 post the 2023 rule changes. She also won Gold in 2022 and Bronze in 2023.    Jelimo the jury is out. She doesn’t look male like the other two do.
    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
