  • 2 weeks later...

Did anyone see yesterday's farcical mixed relay? South Africa, Greece, South Korea and Spain started with a man, followed by a woman, so they had quite a lead after the first leg. However, the four women then went into the wrong direction, got pulled out of the water by a jury boat and disqualified some minutes later

Nope, the women got the DSQ (jury need some time to take a decision), but the 4 man went in the wrong direction

That would make the whole thing seem more logical. The four men did of course reach the finish/exchange zone, so they cut a part of the course somewhere?

They cut around the middle of the leg, not rounding the turn mark

Wellbrock vs Paltrinieri for the 5k world title. Together for a large part of the race and in the end Wellbrock was simply too fast for Paltrinieri. Bronze for Romanchuk, it's basically like we're still in the pool :d

Finally the WC break for Sharon van Rouwendaal. As per usual, :NED salvaging what little is left in the marathon tournament. Happy to see her on top form on the Olympic distance again.

She was a bit helped by Cunha and Beck battling it out together, but that's what can happen in a three-way race to the finish.

Yeah, the finish was very exciting. The first 3 women finished within 1 second from each other after 10k. :hyper:

My meeting at work was about to start at 10:00 and meetings with Dutch and German colleagues always start right on time., but I saw how tight the race was and the finish was at 10:03 or something like that, so I made ten people in the meeting wait for me with some stupid excuse, just so I could watch the finish. :zip:

Kynigakis tested positive for Covid and is out. Too bad, I wanted to see how he would do after his impressive 5th place finish at last year's Olympics as a 22 yo

    • For the summary and lowlights of Thailand's preparation in hosting the ongoing Sea Games, I kindly suggest those who are interested to read from this English language article from Thai media outlet, Thai Enquirer: https://www.thaienquirer.com/63469/thailands-sea-games-2025-under-fire-budget-management-and-technical-controversies/
    • It's all hogwash especially in the short attention span generation. Like nobody cares about Free Tibet anymore either. Free Palestine will last a lot longer due to Saudi Arabia becoming a sponsorship force in sports.   Israel is too weak in soccer to qualify from UEFA zone. The only time they qualified was from the Asian zone and they only beat Australia & New Zealand who were complete nobodies in the 1960s. No such luck in the 60 years since.
    • Oh I assure you FIFA dodger a bullet with Israel not qualifying…   But ya that’s kind of the thing, shut up and dribble is a mantra anti LGBT people have used often. I don’t think it’s hypocritical to remind them of their position
    • Ah, yes but that's not how pro athletes are taught in North America these days? Shut up & dribble is xenophobic, racist or whatever? The hypocrisy of some of these policies were exposed during 2022 World Cup already where the Saudis played it smart and waved their own "Free Palestine' slogans. Forget LGBT rights for a moment, how many 'Free Palestine' flags will be waved in 2026? Or will those be confiscated by default? Somehow I feel this won't be met with similar backlash when China clamped down on 'Free Tibet' in 2008 OG. Saudi Arabia is more important to global markets than Iran & Egypt
    • Wisła Płock just assumed 1st position after five consecutive draws. Must be first time ever a team on a five match winless streak actually moves up to league top.
    • Well ya, which is why the Egyptian and Iranian teams can shut up and dribble :P
    • The problem is, the World Cup is not a local event. Overall it's another storm in a teacup. LGBT rights in Muslim countries won't change a damn inch becuse of one soccer match in Seattle
