Last Ranking Series tournament for men's Freestyle and women's Wrestling before the World Champs, the Yasar Dogu in Istanbul (TUR)...

to be honest, not many names to be remembered on the mat...

Day #1 Finalists:

Women's Wrestling

-50kg: :RUS Valeriya CHEPSARAKOVA vs :IND Seema SEEMA
-55kg: :KAZ Zulfiya YAKHYAROVA vs :TUR Bediha GUN
-59kg: :IND Kumari MANJU vs :BLR Katsiaryna HANCHAR YANUSHKEVICH
-65kg: :USA Forrest Ann MOLINARI vs :RUS Natalia FEDOSEEVA

Men's Freestyle

-57kg: :TUR Baris KAYA vs :ITA Givi DAVIDOVI
-61kg: :IND Rahul Balasaheb AWARE vs :TUR Munir Recep AKTAS
-70kg: :AZE Murtazali MUSLIMOV vs :BUL Mihail Iliev GEORGIEV

unbelievable day for our Givi Davidovi...first, he won a crazy match against :AZE Giorgi Edisherashvili (after a 10-10 tie on the mat) in the first round, then in the semifinal match he was 8-1 down against :BUL Mikyay Salim Naim with only 40 seconds still to play and finally he found some magic to comeback and win the bout by a score of 9-8...:yikes:

unfortunately, even a win in tomorrow's final won't give him enough points to sneak in into the top 4 of the -57kg class ranking before the Worlds, so to have an easier draw in the early rounds...:(

still, it would be a prestigious win and a huge boost just ahead of the big event of the year...:fingers:

Really not the strongest roster but i recognize few of them. Beside Gigi there is also Muslimov who had good ECh last year.

yeah I was expecting more but the quality and also the quantity isn't impressive at all. I guess most big countries are busy with their own trial system and those "already selected" athletes are focusing on the main tournament. beside that we had European Games few days ago.

after all those ranking points is not THAT important. the only good thing in being top 4 is you most probably will get a bye in first round. no more. there are so many unseeded great wrestlers much better than top seeds.

as for Iran, we have a small team here. only 79kg here is our main guy.

thankfully, a few more interesting things happened on Friday and earlier today in Istanbul...

in particular, everything is set for tomorrow's showdown in the men's -74kg, when a new chapter of the rivalry between Frank Chamizo and Jordan Burroughs will be on stage...

however, I don't expect anything special, as Chamizo is just coming back from a muscular injury that prevented his participation to the European games just a couple of weeks ago...so, he can't be in the best shape...

still, the names involved are always worth watching...:d

and for the joy of our dear friend @hckosice we have a couple of Slovakians on fire :yikes: :p as Gulaev made the final in the men's -79kg and Makoev will be in the bronze medal match in the -86kg...

Apparently Frank Chamizo withdraw... I hope that it's just a precaution.

    • That was known from the start for  and will be planned for.   Sadly just the reality of sports in North America. Canada and the US are both huge, a flight from Vancouver to Halifax or from Seattle to Miami is north of five hours. Every sports league in North America has to deal with this kind of travel logistics on the regular, so none of this will seem particularly unusual to a North American player.
    • That’s not a long distance, it’s barely a 2h flight and there is no difference in timezone. Easily doable for fans as well.
