I’m not sure it’s going to have much shelf life. They’ll get some attention at first to see the trainwreck of it… but after that, not sure it has much allure.

People care about the Olympics, not so much records. They’d need to build it to something beyond a freak show element, cause when you go down that road the only way to keep an audience is keep pushing it further and further

Pretty much. The first generation of athletes may see some success because of the uniqueness of the event, but after that it will become tough for it to be sustainable, especially if more and more athletes sign up.

The event has a branding issue, if breaking the world record is all that matters then people will take more drugs to the point where someone is going to die and once that happens the negative press will essentially shut them down.

They will also have a tough time legitimizing the records. It's like the INEOS Challenge for a sub 2 hour marathon in 2019, they succeeded, but no one cared.

Exactly. It won’t be dramatically different from "normal" weightlifting. If they can find a way to make it appealing for TV in a way that makes it successful financially it will just get copied by the non "enhanced" competitions.

Also what is going on with North Korea winning gold in every women’s event and breaking all the world records. Also where is China?

but Jaqueline Simoneau placed sixth in the women’s 69kg with 232kg if she made all her lifts she would have won silver. Technically gold with Maude Charron since North Korea is undeniably doping haha
