Well, there's around 17 million people and around 22,5 million bikes here... :p

Basically every average person has a bike for daily stuff like going to a friend's house or the shops or something and a lot of people have some old bike they use to go to the train station or something (because bikes often get stolen from there so people don't want to put their regular bike there). Plus racing bikes and stuff like that.

So the Dutch have decided to make this sport super-uncompetitive too.

You mean after korfball? Because surely you don't mean one of the rare winter sports where three continents all have multiple realistic gold medal contenders across the board of events :p

See, the Dutch are very good at cycling because during the summer they can't use the canals to get around, so they are forced to use their bikes.

Now you sound like our NBC hosts during the Winter Olympics

Bit of an unfortunate headline by Dutch main broadcaster NOS in these times...

https://nos.nl/artikel/2252132-accu-dumoulin-weer-opgeladen-zin-om-iets-van-wk-te-maken.html

Loosely translated it says 'Dumoulin's battery has been recharged'

But apparently only on the womens side. I am still amazed that there are people who dont understand the importance of doping in cycling, just look what happened to british cycling in the last 10 years ...

The Netherlands are dominant in speed skating, so noone should be surprised to see them that strong in another sport that is mostly about endurance. The Netherlands in general are more relaxed than other countries when it comes to drugs/doping. Algeria used to be much better than the Netherlands in distance running, but now the Netherlands clearly turned it around (at least on the womens side). You have to wonder how that was possible despite algerian people being more naturally gifted than dutch people when it comes to distance running ...
