for whatever reason UWW/FILA uses the father name of Iranian wrestlers as well. I know in most Arab countries they use only the father name (alongside with the givenname) but in Iran the naming system is similar to western countries. plus no middle name here. it's only given name + surname. some names are more than one part though. but father name is nowhere mentioned in the passport as part of their own name that's just a UWW thing.

by saying that. 60kg guy is just Ali Reza (or Alireza) Nejati, 67kg guy is Yousef Hosseinvand (you can drop that Fathi part as well) and 72kg gold medalist is Amin Kavianinejad.

I personally think that that is what gives Iranians an advantage in wrestling

Imagine  you are Vijay and the person you are facing is Hosein Jahanbakhsh FOROUZANDEH GHOJEHBEIGLOU, hefeels unsure whether  he is facing the father , the son , the village et al  , he is already scared .....:mumble:

I knew I can't expect the same results from our freestyle team but they were really bad today and I'm not talking about their results but mostly the way they wrestled. we had two matches with Russia today and both of them finished in 1st period  our 70kg wrestler lost in a VERY stupid way. (he could be in the final because of his good draw) and our 57kg wrestler lost to someone much much weaker than himself.

as expected Russia dominated the freestyle and only USA can challenge them for the team title. but interestingly the only defeat of the day for Russia was against Japan !! and not in a light weight ! :yikes:

but the biggest surprise of the day was in 57kg semifinal. that American kid Daton Fix was the defending World Junior Champion and in USA they consider him a great talent. didn't expect him anything less than gold. that was a great result for this kid Naveen from India !

Personally we had 4 wrestlers who are good in freestyle and I expected all of them to medal ........ Naveen, Sachin , Kaliramana , deepak ...................  Naveen looks good and won  in the bout against fix he looked dominant , Kaliramana lost his quarters narrowly and the MDA wrestler lost narrowly in the semis , looking forward to seeing  Sachin and possibly Indias best bet Deepak in action today

Vishal should have won his bout against the Moldovan. He left it a little too late and almost equalised the score in the last second. Rohit too had such close loss against the other Moldovan wrestler. Other 2 lost tamely in the QF.

Vishal in my opinion was much too defensive for the first 4:30 minutes  he did not luanch  a single attack and went down 5:0 pts fought back but tto late , possibly he was the better wrestler in strength and technique , but he lost out on attitude

    • Apparently this season will be last one in Kamil Stoch career if his results wont be enough good for his standards.
    • Such a nice one for Colturi ! That was fun. It almost looked like a script with the cameras focusing on Colturi a couple of times before her first run and showcasing the potential of youngster and she didn't disappoint.      I hope Colturi skis for Albania forever. So much fun to cheer her with the Albanian flag.    I don't get it why everyone is being so critical of Colturi, you got no right to criticize a personal decision, as most European nations use imported athletes in many sports like wrestling and cheer them on like their.   Would you spend hours criticizing Frank Chamizo for switching to Italy rather than playing for Cuba?

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
