I suggest we take all those now extra athlete quotas and use it in other sports. Maybe we can get a proper baseball/softball and karate events.

I was just thinking about that...

with boxing out of the Games, we're gonna have around 300 quotas to be spread all around...

and imho the sports that need most of them are Karate (enlarging the field in any category to 16 and adding the 2 Kumite classes "killed" so far), Sport Climbing (give up that silly combined event in favor of Lead and Speed as proper Olympic disciplines, with at least 30 starters each one and for each gender), Rowing (enlarging the starting field of the longer boats to at least 12 men and 10 women's Eights and maybe also a pair of Fours/Quadruple Sculls more than today), Baseball & Softball (increasing the number of teams of those tournaments at least to 8)...

and I'd like also to add a 5th weight class in Taekwondo...

then a few more quotas here and there in the sports (and/or events) where we have a very small field, too (I'm thinking for instance about the Synchronized Diving, where they could go from 8 to 10/12 pairs...but not only, of course)...

and if IOC gets rid of Weightlifting too, maybe there's a small margin for adding 1 (Squash) or 2 (Squash + Inline Speedskating) more sports with selected events...

but I guess that now I'm just going too far & beyond...

IOC is incredibly closed minded to use boxing quotas elsewhere, so I wouldn't get my hopes up...

Changing not only quotas but even entire events less than two years before the Olympics isn't a good thing, so I hope those ideas of phelps won't actually happen in 2020 :p

Plus I'm not so enthousiastic anyway about stuff like even more uncompetitive eights.

For diving, they can enlarge the field by allowing countries with 2 or more quotas in a gender to compete in the mixed events provided they competed at the qualifiers or w/e

At this point I just want them to release the qualification document. Same with canoe sprint. Athletics is on thin ice by not releasing their qualification times, making their qualification document useless and don't get me started about FIBA not updating their document after changing the women's qualification. :spank:

Breaking news

"The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has rendered its decision in the appeal filed by Mr Serik Konakbayev, Vice President of the International Boxing Association (AIBA) and President of the Asian Boxing Confederation, against the decision taken by the AIBA Election Committee on 1 October 2018 in which his name was not included on the list of candidates standing for election for the role of AIBA President. CAS has upheld Serik Konakbayev’s appeal. Accordingly, AIBA is ordered to include Serik Konakbayev in the list of presidential candidates standing for election at the next AIBA Congress, scheduled to take place on 2-3 November 2018 in Moscow."
