Figure Skating ISU Challenger Series 2021 - 2022 (Nebelhorn Trophy)

Pairs Olympic qualifiers: :ESP:GEO:ISR

Alternates: :CHN:BLR:AUS:NED

Really disappointing result for China,  who almost certainly would have had three pairs after worlds if not for COVID and because 2 of the 3 teams ahead of them are transfers. Unfortunately they had two falls.

This is the Olympic debut in pairs for both Spain and “Georgia”.

Qualification summary for pairs:

Three entries:

:ROC

Two entries:

:CHN

:CAN

:USA

:ITA

One entry:

:JPN

:AUT

:GER

:HUN

:CZE

:ESP

:GEO

:ISR

Sadly no joy for Cyprus.

It's easy to blame them for entering Zingas instead of Kitromilis, but then again, Zingas finished ahead of Kitromilis in literally every competition last season I believe. Kitromilis' recent result in America came ouf of nowhere.

:ARM becomes the 32nd and last nation to qualify for the figure skating events. Same as in Pyeongchang, with 4 less quotas.

Pleased for Finland. They missed out narrowly in the ice dance for previous few Olympics. This is their first couple since Rahkamo/Kokko.

Also very happy for the Armenian couple.

Especially since they missed out on the worlds due to a false positive for covid.

Only 10 nations have enough quotas to be eligible for the team event, so we already know which are qualified regardless of rankings.

:ROC :USA :CAN :JPN :ITA :CHN :GEO :CZE :GER :UKR

Debuts for Georgia and Czech Republic (!). No France for the first time.

Still not a fan of the team event even with Georgia on board. :p The outcome is too predictable and the competition system is nuts. Basically game over after the short program.

Should limit it to 8 teams max, and perhaps of the placements being added, the scores maybe? Either way when you do a team event for an individual sport, it will always lead to the predictable result.

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
    • Idea (that I don't want to mess with right now, but someone else can steal the idea): Could feed the docs from LA28 + Paris 2024 through AI and see what it says.  (Would just take downloading them, perhaps merging them for ease of upload, and passing it through.)
    • If you have time would love to see a sport by sport overview of the changes/new sports
    • Slowly going through the documents.   Looks like canoe slalom qualifiers will be a bit different. More kayak cross quotas which will let nations to essentially qualify two kayakers.
    • How about we choose either Rome or Milano  I hate this timeline we have entered of multiple host cities / countries. The football World Cup became ludicrous, we don't need the Olympics to join them. At least not more than they already are.

The FIBA World Cup Qualifier in P.R. is a throwaway tour- nament for Team USA after the Gold Medal Game debacle. • I'm also reminded as I know Canadians are painfully aware that if figures hadn't been a part of the 1984 Olympics, then Brian Orser would have won gold.  Hamilton could have finished 4th in the free skate that year and still beat Orser who finished 7th in the figures
