Fun fact: Those were the only medals won by men at the 2020 Olympics, the other 18 medals were won by women across nine (if you split diving and swimming) sports.

IOC might punish Canada because of imbalance between the 2 sexes regarding the medals captured in various sports :d

  • 3 weeks later...

:GRE Rafailia Spanoudaki is out. She just tested positive for Covid, so she will miss the Greek National Championships this weekend.

She would've been the heavy favourite to win both the 100m and 200m, which would have given her a lot of points to move up in the Race to Oregon ranking and probably she would've qualified in the 200m.

I think this might be the first time ever where we don't qualify anyone in a women's track event, or any track event for that matter. The only chance is for one of our young hurdlers (Anais Karagianni in 100H and Dimitra Gnafaki in 400H) to get a big PR this weekend and sneak in via ranking. And both already got PRs recently (Karagianni has gone from 13.31 to 13.15 this season, and Gnafaki from 57.00 to 56.67), so I'm not sure how realistic it is that they'll be able to improve so much in so little time.

Slovakia will send only 5 athletes (4 in Race Walking) and 1 in Track and Field. The smallest delegation ever

Sadly all our "A" team members are returning from injuries, Ján Volko, Emma Zapletalová, Martina Hrašnová, Gabriela Gajanová, Stanislava Škvarková (all declined their spots for the WCh and are entirely now focusing only for the Europeans) + Marcel Lomnický, Tomáš Veszelka and Michal Morvay are still injured and will not compete this year probably anymore. The rising star Viktoria Foster is still a bit behind the required qualifying level in both her events 100 & 100 Hurdles.

But whole our team is focusing on the European Championships where it looks we will send a more than 20 atletes which will be the biggest delegation ever :p

So for the worlds just a cosmetic participation with 5 Athletes

Miroslav Úradník, Dominik Černý, Hana Burzalová and Ema Hačundová in Race Walking and Daniela Ledecká in W 400m Hurdles

    • Well, I see that the national competition between mixed doubles and also men increased. Also actually amongst women, too. Before it was mostly Kubeskova team that participated in some international events. This year, Synackova team did really well in the pre-qualification just the final qualification was not that good. But curling is about details. Generally, I am glad to see that there is really much higher competition than it was 10 years ago. And seeing Chabickovsky a Zelingerova making it to the Olympics in such a young age can be really promising for their career as curling is becoming more professional, as we see Grand Slams and other big tournaments.    As for now, I think that in Milano Team Klima and mixed doubles can make really interesting results. After all, they will finish in top 10 so just qualifying to the Games is already a huge achievement

    • Please do not bring this idea to Sindo
    • Tahli/Dean    Probably just as disappointed as the Australians on here are
    • Gotta feel for  defending world bronze medalists, but couldn't make it to the Olympics
    • with a steal of 3 in the 8th end,  can't make the last shot to stay alive.
    • Oh yea.  Seemed like they were starting to get some less than elite pitchers, but the commits they've had in the last 12 hours have been stellar.  Now the staff feels like an embarrassment of riches.  They have 3 elite starters and a bunch of guys that can eat innings.  Thrilled what Mark DeRosa has been able to put together.
    • It looks like you guys will be juuuuust fine.   Tarik Skubal, Logan Webb, Joe Ryan and Nolan McLean all committed within the last couple of days.
    • Yay for no disqualifications! Thanks @OlympicIRL for all the work! Getting close.
