So, Israel has become the new Turkey in the long distance runnings. Lots of goings to the African market from my watching today...

It's the law of return. There is a sizeable Jewish population in Ethiopia. Other than that, Salpeter has her own story.

I think that women's shot put has become a rather unpopular discipline lately. Seeing as it's not as fashionable as running, jumping or even the physique that javelin throwers tend to have, not many young women athletes are becoming interested in this discipline and even less go pro.

Here in Lithuania right now, we have a single athlete that specialises solely on the shot put, the other women are discus throwers first, others are throwing for the sake of heptathlon or are in that age range where they force you to do everything.

There was a bit more interest in this discipline, but nearly every prospect retired, I somehow wonder it must be a similar case throughout other countries as well.

To emphasise, here are our best shot put attempts from this season:

Screenshot (1541).png

I. Zarankaitė, E. Zarankaitė, Rudytė and Stuglytė that didn't fit in the screenshot are discus throwers.

Bačianskaitė, Juškevičiūtė and Vaitaitytė are all heptathletes.

Nikiforovaitė is the only one that mainly focuses on shot put, but since she is still u18 level this year, it's highly likely she won't continue that much further as all our shot put prospects quit by the age of 24.

the problem is that it combines technique with pure strenght...

to succeed in shot put, people necessarily need to be very big and strong and it's not easy to find many women with both size and athletic skills to reach some kind of measures...

not to mention what used to be the common practice in the fabulous Eighties...

with all its troubles, anti-doping right now is a very serious thing if compared to those years...

Skinny German girl flops :d I'm surprised the British one is still fighting for Silver, since she was leading the whole race, very impressive.

Well, whereas Mayer would have been far and away the favourite for gold, after this first day there really shouldn't be any sort of significant challenge for Kaul, unless he gets some sort of total collapse, injury or whatever, which is of course not to be hoped. Maybe the fight behind him can be interesting though, Estonia even with two excellent medal chances, that'd be something.

we do not buy athleats there is the "Law of Return" that allows any jew to be able to become israeli citizen+being marry to a ctizen or being born here makes you eligable for citizenship as well so Taferi made "Alliyah" when he was 13, Luna is married to israeli citizen( she was not an athleat before and she stated after getting married , Blessing (200m) was born here, so i hope i made it all clear :d buying Athleats and well represnting your country are two diffrent things

Are all those Ethiopian athletes who go to Israel coincidentally Jews (of which there apparently are some, but definitely not many in Ethiopia)? :p

And yeah, as far as I know Salpeter is definitely a whole different case, as in, went there to work, met her now-husband and became an athlete.
