BIG missed opportunities for :IRI and :JOR who will not send any gymnasts to this event.

what a pity  I was hoping they can find a solution before this but it seems they didn't. Iran Gymnastics Federation is somehow suspended right now. I mean not officially but in reality.

the former/current president is accused of stealing money. still just accused, nothing is official but per rules in Iran she wasn't allowed to run for this position as long as she has an open case in the court. the election was supposed to be held few months ago but FIG didn't like the news and threatened the Iranian officials to suspend Iran if they don't let her run for another term. she is still in her office, FIG recognizes her as the president but per rules in Iran her time is expired and whatever he signs as IGF president means nothing. therefore no money, nothing else, she can't do shit but still she loves to keep that position.

this is just deadend and who knows how long it will take. I just feel terrible for those gymnasts.

This is really sad. Iran could have walked away with more than one medal. I'd say Iran could even have had a world champion or two! Not so easy on pommel horse, but possible. Now, on rings this was definitely possible. One of the Iranian gymnasts scores 14.8 on this apparatus and this could be enough for the world title this year. What a shame.

Now that we know the female US team, all that's left to know is which gymnasts are going to perform 2 vaults among all countries. The official FIG website has not released the start lists yet. The Longiness website has a provisional start list but they don't mention which gymnasts are going to perform two vaults. The event will start in one week and we are still left wanting with some questions. What a mess.

Anyway, I believe that the most probable candidates are:

Qi Qi :CHN
Geurts :NED
Van Pol :NED
Bacskay :HUN
Fedorova :UKR
Hubareva :UKR
Murakami :JPN
Taman :EGY
Perea :ECU
Devillard :FRA
Budda Reddy :IND
Pranati Das :IND
Kysseleff :CRO
Wong Angel :HKG
Andrade :BRA
Escalera :MEX
Melnikova :RUS

Most likely candidates for the podium: Andrade, Melnikova, Murakami. Dark horses for a medal: Devillard, Geurts, and maybe Qi Qi. Likely to make history and be in the final: Taman, Kysseleff and one of the Indians. Bacskay, Escalera and one of the Ukrainians could also be in the final if someone else fails and they hit. Van Pol should qualify easily if she performs two vaults.

Anyway, I believe that a score as low as 13.8 could realistically be enough to make women's vault finals. Compare this to 14.6 not making the final at the Olympics two months ago and you will understand how poor this World Championships is going to be...

3% = 10 from 1 country = Africa

Brazil will send 2 male gymnasts and 1 female gymnast.

And we might see the first-ever medal for Africa this time: :EGY Zahran on rings.

The best-ever position achieved by an African gymnast was 4th place on rings, also by an Egyptian gymnast, Ali Zaki, in 1950.

So, the Russians didn't know the equipment manufacturer for this event is Taishan. They thought it was Senoh, the manufacturer who provided the apparatus for the Olympics.

It seems like a minor difference, but Taishan's floors are one of the worst -- maybe the worst -- for gymnasts. It is said to be too stiff and prone to cause injuries. Many gymnasts skip performing on floor altogether when Taishan is their only choice of apparatus. What a shame. A badly attended event with a terrible choice of apparatus supplier. This doesn't seem to bode well.

It has been said that the accommodations in the hotels is less than optimal, the food is bad and the competition hall looks ugly. Well, this is shaping up to be the worst edition of the World Championships this century.

And we still don't know who is going to perform two vaults. The competition starts in 3 days.

Unbelievable.

The horizontal bar in the training hall broke when Adria Vera :ESP was performing just simple giants. What a mess of an event. :SLO Tjassa Kysselef publicly complained about the tiny hotel room and the meager amount of food the gymnasts are given after paying 200 euros for each night. :EGY Nancy Taman got injured. :USA EMjae Frazier had a nasty fall on floor, probably because the quality of the apparatus leaves a lot to be desired.

I'm sorry to bring so much negative remarks and comments here, but I'm seriously scared at how poor everything is. The host city was only chosen because it was the birthplace of the FIG president. Talk about political decisions for the biggest competition in this sport after the Olympics... It backfired in a horrible manner.

The biggest debacle in slalom in decades is coming  This winter seasons haven't even started yet but I'm fed up with him. Second 1500 ever for her, first was in Inzell a few weeks back (2'07) with what seemed like very good conditions.   It means a lot of room for improvement and a good sign for the 3000 which is her real strong event at the moment - she lacks basic speed but had one of the fastest final laps today, 10th over Div A and B. Faster last than penultimate lap must be quite unusual too.
    • When? I understand this is a joke about this great job
    • The same thing happened after Turin 2006. That hall later was never used for skating competitions again, only the Indoor ECH in athletics was organized there once in 2009 and that was it. After that it was only used for commercial fairs etc. It will be the same with Milan. Regarding the indoor arena in Collalbo, it was a great idea to make it an Italian center of skating sports for many years: good location, high altitude, tourist town. Well, but according to the organizers, it`s not worth doing it, but why? Why is`t not worth doing anything here but Germany has a similar track in Inzell and it is possible there? They should hire a good manager who will develop a plan for them to make it worth doing. The same is with the bobsleigh track in Cortina. It was also not worth renovating it and if Salvini's and other big politics and determination hadn`t come into it, the competition would probably have been in Austria or St. Moritz.   The cooperation with the Netherlands is probably only supposed to concern short track. Besides, this cooperation will not do anything if we don`t have at least one indoor track for training in the summer and early autumn. The Dutch Federation isn`t a charity and will not build us infrastructure for free so that we can train on it. There are no miracles. It`s probably more about taking advantage of the opportunity to train with someone like Fontana, who is a legend in short track. After 2026 this cooperation will end, when she leaves.
    • For Ghiotto to win 2 golds at the Olympics, he would have to be the second van der Poel or Sablikova in they pick of form. You have to be a genius to beat this whole coalition of Norwegians, Dutchmen etc. However, I don't see that much talent in him. I'd like to be wrong, but I'm afraid that he'll end up with some silver-bronze in the 10 km and that's it. If he starts losing to Eitrem now, who is 22 years old, it won't bode well for the future, and there's also Roest + maybe another Dutchman will jump out. Generally, our team is poorly prepared for this season and it's not like Ghiotto is on individual training on the moon and has just come down to earth and will now win everything while the rest of the team are in terrible form. Of course, the lack of form of Bosa or Trentini means e.g. 20th place, not 10th, but for Ghiotto it could mean 4/5 place, instead of 1st. It's the same with the team. For today, the only positive performance for us is Lollobrigida's 2nd place in the b category of the women's 1500 meters and Fontana's solid performance in the same event. The rest is terrible.
