Summer Olympic Games 2020 Medal Count

Recommended Posts

After Day 3 Rio: 40/306 events, 38 NOCs with medals

After Day 3 Tokyo: 50/339 events, 51 NOCs with medals

:JPN Japan, :USA the USA, :CHN China and :ROC Russia all going very well so far. Compared to Rio, they all have collected more golds already. Especially Japan, as expected. Some dents in the US team (if you can call it that in swimming) and a subpar day for China with no gold won. The silvers in weightlifting, diving and table tennis were mostly expected to be golden.

:AUS Australia has gained momentum in the pool but only there when in Rio, medals (4-0-3) were won across many sports. :ITA Italy surely disappointed with no individual fencing gold and it also looked a bit brighter 5 years ago in general (same amount of medals but 3-4-2 in alloy). Also :HUN Hungary (3-0-0) and, interestingly enough, :THA Thailand (2-1-1) have dropped a bit.

Significant improvements compared to Rio by :GBR (1-1-2).

:CAN Canada (0-1-3) and  :FRA France (0-1-0) can be mentioned as well.

Historical first gold for the :PHI Philippines.

The biggest disappointment as to what was anticipated (so far) still the :NED Dutch team but also thanks to reasons we know.

4th place counter*

(4) :HUN:NED:USA

(3) :CAN:GBR:ITA:JPN:KOR:TUR

(2) :BEL:FRA:GEO:ISR:MEX:NOR:SUI:UKR:UZB

(1) :ARG:AZE:BLR:BIH:BRA:TPE:FIN:GER:NIG:POR:ROC:ESP:SLO:THA and the Refugee Olympic Team

*5th places in events that award two bronze medals

Everything is open so far but as things stand right now IMO it will be around 6 gold medals for :HUN rather than the 8 in Rio. I would like to be proven wrong.

If the men's sabre team fails to win then even more so. Of course a lot of things can happen in week 2 but I don't expect that gold medals suddenly start to rain on :HUN in the canoe kayak track, if we keep up the 3 gold medals there from Rio it would be a very good result. Additional sports also have to chip in for more than 6 gold medals.

Milak failing to win the men 200 fly would be the absolute total disappointment of the whole Olympics for us.

Hey, at least we are #1 in something at the Games.  (for now, obviously the top nations will overtake us eventually)

It will be a battle to the death. For me, with a double 4th place in Water Polo we could also win at last! It could be so epic! Let's see :fingers:

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
