Even though the Americans are slightly faster this year in 400IM, I still would not bet against her in that race.

Yeah, that's her medal and also her gold chance. Not much of a chance in 200 IM, but I think many still not accepted the harsh reality of that.

LOL, the Hungarian national sports newspaper went a bit insane and have this very hopeful projection for us on their front page today:

10 gold, 8 silver, 10 bronze

This will only happen if literally everything goes right for us. I am not sure what they are thinking by putting the bar impossibly high, especially when our NOC on the other hand put the bar really low at 13 medals.

What is the name of this newspaper? I remember I bought one when I was at F1 race in Hungaroring few years ago, but don't remember the name.

Already 28 countries after Day 1 compared to Rio (20 countries and one event more back then). Having taekwondo early helps.

Australia and USA with the worst start compared to Rio (:AUS 2-0-1; :USA 1-4-0) but no swimming finals have been held yet.

On the other hand, China has started very well in terms of gold medal placing compared to 5 years ago (:CHN 0-2-3).

40 NOCs in the medal table already, which is 9 more than in Rio at this stage.

The expected top-three countries are running away early. :CHN , :JPN and :USA collecting more medals than five years ago at this early stage (USA 3-5-4, China 3-2-3 and USA 1-0-6). Especially impressive the Americans considering there were no medals won yesterday.

:AUS Australia not yet able to get close to their superb start of 3-0-3 and also :ITA Italy having dropped slightly compared to Rio (2-3-2).

:SWE Sweden with no medal yet when they had one gold and a silver in comparison. Very impressed by :TUN Tunisia and there are more chances left along the way.

The :NED Dutch team not looking like they will finish 5th in the medal table and 48 medals total. Have already blown some chances for that. Not to mention being unlucky with Covid in rowing.

4th place counter*

(3) - :HUN:ITA:NED:KOR:TUR

(2) - :JPN:ISR:UKR

(1) - :ARG:BLR:BEL:BIH:TPE:FRA:GEO:GER:GBR:MEX:NIG:NOR:POR:ROC:ESP:SUI and the Refugee Olympic Team

*5th places in events that award two bronze medals

:ECU:BRA:COL:MEX the medaling latin american nations. Which nations will join them in the coming days?

For sure:

:VEN Rojas for sure, small chance for Diaz in men’s kata

:CUB in combat sports, but it will be 10 medals at most for them, their lowest in 40+ years

:ARG in either hockey, volley or basket, could grab one in sailing too.

50/50

:PUR Camacho could sneak in women’s hurdles or a medal in men’s boxing

:DOM lost a good opportunity in tae kwon do today, but boxing could give them some joy.

Few options:

:PER in men’s surf

:CRC in women’s surf

:GUA in sailing

Any other latin american athlete winning a medal will be a huge surprise
