  2. Urgh. I hate injuries. Can't we wrap all the athletes in cotton wool until Paris?!?
  3. The way the qualification document is written is that a nation automatically gets the K2/C2 quota while the K1/C1 gets reallocated, but here it looks like the nation can choose to decline the K2/C2 quota and receive the K1/C1. Regardless, quotas will need to be reallocated. Also it looks like is to get the K1 1000m quota instead of .
  4. I mean the 7s world cup has literally been a 10 match tournament (in 1993). It then went to 7 matches in 97, 8 matches in 2001 & 2005, 6 matches in 2009 & 2013 and finally 4 matches in the last 2 editions. So there's absolutely no reason it couldn't be different in the Olympics.
  5. But wasn't part of the IRB's desire to see 7s in the Olympics at least partially to give it a 'marquee' event? I could be completely wrong here but I strongly suspect more people will watch the Olympic tournaments than watch the world series or the world cup. That's central to my argument really - I don't have the same problems with men's football where the Olympics clearly aren't the peak. I have more of an issue on the women's side where it still somewhat is, although in recent years it's becoming less of an issue with the strong growth of the women's game.
  6. Women's football is another sport where I have similar views to this.
  7. Is this an actual rule? Could they not play over 3-4 days or add a rest day in between? Regardless, despite the men's depth, I don't see any true team sport besides football having more than 12 entrants. Not to mention that the women's side does not have this kind of depth.
  8. Today
  9. 6 quotas per gender and no limitaions how many boats can be qualified at the continental regatta But you are right - quotas (but not boats) are limited - it looks like reallocations will follow.
  10. is this accurate? https://www.canoeicf.com/sites/default/files/paris_2024_csp_quota_allocation_as_of_07052024_v2.pdf Kazakhstan won both MK1 and MK2 quotas which is not possible per rules and China despite already having 4 quotas in WK4, is winning 3 more in WK1 and WK2. (while each country can win max 6 quotas in WK)
  11. It's hugely ironic that, if he hadn't been caught doping, he probably would still have been a competitive weightlifter and not have been fighting the Russians.
  12. Impossible. A 7s tournament is 6 matches maximum. With this format you would go up to 7.

  14. Nice to see the relay go to the oversea departments (except Mayotte), French Polynesia and New Caledonia.
  15. Yeah, with no India, the South Asia qualifier has attracted a lot more entrants than usual. Equal or more than Southeast Asia which is typically the second strongest region in Asia.
  16. Here are the groups. Top two advance to the knockout stage.
