  2. First disciplines are officially confirmed by the EOC. You can guess, which one I'm most happy about - I bet you hit within the first shot
  3. First three disciplines have been officially confirmed by the EOC in the programme of the III European Games Kraków-Małopolska 2023. These are canoe slalom, taekwondo and modern pentathlon. For canoe slalom and modern pentathlon this will be the debut at the European Games. The canoe track in Kraków-Kolna is one of the best in the world, hosting top events every year, while modern pentathlon has big traditions in host country, Poland, including Olympic gold medals of Janusz Peciak, current Director of Sports of UIPM, and Arkadiusz Skrzypaszek individually and in team with Dariusz Goździak and Maciej Czyżowicz in Barcelona, as well as multiple medals od World and European Championships. Taekwondo was a part of the European Games in Baku in 2015 and it's come back will have an increased meaning with the Olympic qualification ranking points to achieve there having the highest number at any continental event. Also the canoe slalom and modern pentathlon will have a significant role in Paris 2024 qualifications - the European Games will serve as the European Championships in those disciplines, giving the direct quotas to the best athletes. The provisional list, that was announced in September this year, has 20 more disciplines, including mostly the Olympic ones (for example badminton, judo, rugby sevens, shooting, triathlon), as well as still developing yet gaining quite popularity in Poland beach handball, as well as ski jumping in the summer version as one of the most popular sports in the region hosting the Games.
  4. There was a chance for a Portuguese curler in a Polish league, but he decided to drop out curling just ahead of the postponement of the league.

  8. @Vektor- you are from one of only two privileged nations to have tested the new format and you are the one to ask? It's three semifinals with 12 athletes each and from that comes 12 finalists. - Round robin fencing being held, as it is now at big events, a day before everything and counting for the rest of the competition, as I understand. - Riding with less obstacles (to make it shorter) and it starts with it so that the longest warm-up would not be between the events. - Swimming in a "cool small pool" @hckosice - yes, indeed, it looks cool, it was in Budapest at the World Champs and it makes quite an impressive view - the problem is it's provisional, so only one official photoreporter was allowed to come to make photos (that's not very "media friendly") - Fencing would be just the bonus round - I read the point value in that would be increased as it's one point for victory now and athletes don't really want to start in it, but they introduced a rule that they won't be allowed to take part in other events if they don't take part - which is the only such case in the whole pentathlon. - Laser-run would be shorter with 600 m lap only - maybe a better balance, but possibly fewer interesting chases down the course. And most of the warm-ups are dramatically shortened - it's 20 minutes for swimming now (and you have much more time to change clothes), with ten minutes of break between warm-up and start of the first heat (to change from warm-up to competition suit), and there is a swimming cool-down after the session. In fencing it's 30 minutes now (usually bonus round is either held right after the round robin or at bigger events quite a time after swimming), and there is 27 minutes of laser-run warm up (starting quite close to the finish of the last rider, which causes him or her to lose some of that time to change from riding to running clothes) with a three-minute long break before the start to set the order at the start line.
  9. Professor Wojciech Zabłocki, one of the biggest Polish fencers and a great architect (he was the one to build the cycling track in Pruszków) has died recently. He was a widower after a famous Polish actress Alina Janowska. With his dead we got to know that his teammate from 1950s, Jerzy Twardokens also died a few years ago. Twardokens emigrated to USA in 1958 and started using the name George, became a doctor at the University of Nevada, his daughter is Eva Twardokens, Olympic alpine skier who survived the plane crash last year. The strangest thing about his death is that until he wasn't mentioned by one of the journalists as one of those "waiting for Zabłocki on a God's piste" yesterday. Apparently we've all thought it's a fake news as there was no news about it anywhere, not only from Polish or American media, but even on Olympedia, which is a strange thing for Olympian (Helsinki 1952) and World Championships medalist, being part of such a great team as him, Zabłocki or Pawłowski. But with a little bit of deeper research (which was needed after I asked for a dementi of that info and the editor-in-chief of the newspaper gave the date of 26th July 2015) we've found the confirmation - and @Dragon has already updated Olympedia thanks to that. Still it sounds quite impossible that such a person's death remains unnoticed by the internet. And yet it shows the power of that certain journalist - he's celebrating 50 years of work for the biggest Polish sports newspaper this year and he is nominated to the most prestigious sport journalist award in Poland, which will be given tomorrow (it's the Bohdan Tomaszewski Award - you might know the patron from the official Olympic Movie from Moscow as he was shown commentating the gold of Malinowski in 3000 m steeplechase: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xipsGMJDVpw - I personally refer to the journalists awarded with it as "The Order of the Garter of the Polish Sports Journalism" - and there's not a single one I doubt deserve it).
  10. "No new events" - except for extreme slalom, mixed sailing.. oh, go to fuck with your words, Thomas, they don't mean a shit.
  11. Is that Bach or his Doppelgänger? Strong words on Belarus, no new events... WTF?
  12. Ready to head for Brno, but who knows, where will we be in 2025. A year ago we were just half a year to Tokyo 2020. And we still are.
  13. Don't you have enough of bubbles in sport this year?
  14. Greetings from Chloe Esposito and Ismael Herndez Uscanga - Rio 2016 medalists. Greetings from Ahmed El Gendy and Salma Abdelmaksoud - YOG champions from Buenos Aires.

  16. Lack of opposition is a basic symptom of autocracy. Adding also the personal cult show made during the last IOC Session, it seems we can start talking about the Olympic Reich instead of Committee.
  17. Good that van der Merwe is paid for parking instead of racing. If someone doesn't know the story - that's what Lauda said asked why he hadn't helped Williamson in Zandvoort. Three years later... well, that's a story you probably know.
