Timo Boll beat both Ovtcharov and Samsonov yesterday so he's in good shape. I guess if someone can prevent an all-Chinese final, it could be him? It'd be cool to see one of the veterans like Boll or Samsonov reach the final :d

Dont think so, here is what he said after the final:

No one can prevent an all-chinese final. I dont know which chinese players got nominated, but Ovtcharov always plays pretty good against Zhang Jike, so there might be a 0.1% chance that it wont be an all-chinese final if China nominates/nominated Zhang Jike. Boll seems to be in a pretty good shape nevertheless, which is good news for the team competition.

Edit: I think there is a pretty good chance that we wont have an all-chinese final at 2020 olympics, Harimoto Tomokazu will hopefully win gold at home.

Ma Long and Zhang Jike will play the singles for China if I'm not mistaken.

Well at least there's only two players per nation in the singles, so we just need to see one miracle to prevent an all-Chinese final. Of course I know it probably won't happen, but one can hope. Then again, the times I saw Ma and Zhang play against each other were awesome matches, so I wouldn't mind that much.

As we eagerly await for the draw, here's is a video about Olympic qualification in table tennis.

P.S. I can imagine some sports where that Cuban player would be disqualified after his celebrations (remember Mekhisi). ;)
