awful day #1 for Italy...:nopompom::facepalm:

the girls of the Team Pursuit were only 4th in the qualification ride, but a lot slower than their usual times...and therefore tomorrow they won't have any chance to match the very strong Austrlian quartet in the semifinal round...

luckily the US girls did show up with a sort of B-Team (no Chloe Dygert, among others) and didn't get anything more than a modest 7th place, leaving Italy still among the top 4...

in the men's Team Pursuit, one of our riders fell down in the early laps, so the team had to ride the entire race with only 3 men and therefore they got boiled in the last Km and ended up in a shameful 10th place, which means that we just cant compete even for a consolation bronze (top performers in the qualification ride were once again Australia, with a good but not so amazing 3.52.something...and ITA have a 3.53.1 record)...

finally, the women's Scratch race...the Italian starter was Martina Fidanza, who won the last 2 world cup races...

and approachinmg the final lap she was in perfect position to try her sprint finish, but the :BEL Belgian D'Hoore decided to make an hazardous move and made many riders (Fidanza included) fall down...

and because the world is full of injustice, she still managed to win the Bronze Medal...

meanwhile the first Gold of the Championships went to :GBR Barker ahead of :NED Wild...

tonight there are also 2 more Medal Finals, the Team Sprint events...

and among the women, it's gonna be :AUS AUS vs :RUS RUS for Gold (:GER GER vs :MEX MEX for Bronze)...

meanwhile the men's deciders will be :NED NED vs :FRA FRA for Gold and :GER GER vs :RUS RUS for Bronze

Do you know the points distribution for Team sprint and Team pursuit for the Olympic Ranking? How many Points do the federations get for each rank? Thanks a lot. :)

Semi-decent day. Olivija managed to avoid the major crash in the scratch race, even though her bike got hit and she lost momentum, managed to finish in 6th place, followed by 7th place in the women's team sprint for Krupeckaitė and Marozaitė.

 Could have been better, could have been worse, atleast our sprint duo did not damage their chances to get two spots at the Olympics.

    • There will be specialized double sculls...just not for an NOC if it is entering singles specialists.   Either enter 2 singles specialists, or 1 XD specialist pair.   But they can in theory compete in both events, I guess, if they qualify...our top M, I think, does both.   But there are 17M, 17W, and 30 Pairs allotted in the quota, so I don't think the intent is that every singles entry will be in doubles.   (Perhaps this gets to fall in line with Weightlifting, where due to max entry quota, an NOC can't enter in every event, even if they have the best athletes...here, unless you have a pair who qualifies in both.)

    • I read the Olympic qualification documents for weightlifting. A country can have the opportunity to send a maximum of 4 athletes in one gender, but the conditions are very strict.
    • world champion Jessica Schilder opened her season up with 19.78 in France.
    • wait! what???   so, there won't be specialized double sculls, but those boats would have to feature 2 single specialists if a Nation wants to enter 2 proper singles M+W??? tell me I misread the expalaination...
