  1. California Independence has actually been polled around 30-40% in favor during the 2018 election (at least that’s what I remember reading). California is slowly becoming American Scotland. It’s more liberal than the rest of the country (save New Mexico, the Northeast), and it enjoys a good economy (4th largest in the world (we passed the UK recently)). As I’ve said before, most Californians will tell you they’re Californian before they’re American. I wouldn’t be sure of that. I don’t think Bloomberg would support the foreign policy that the party wants too. I think he’d make some classic American fuckups, as where Sanders votes against most of the wars and military interventions. I’d say Trump likes his chances of winning at this point. Progressives and Moderates cannibalizing each other in the primary, creating some very unhappy losers. It’s going to take a lot to unite the party, but we won’t know that for sure until we get to the DNC Convention.
  2. Ladies and Gentlemen, you are witnessing a master class in bad PR/Communications. I just can’t with the MLB/Astros right now.
  3. I think he’s just meeting with the LOC to discuss the games. Obviously he’ll have no role in the games, but I think LA 2028 just wanted to give the government an update.
  4. @Dmitry So are the teams in Group B cannot win a medal? I’m assuming there’s some kind of promotion ladder or something. I’m familiar with the teams and sport of Brady, but I’m not sure about the format. Either way, Sweden should cruise to victory. Especially after they upset Russia at the Universaide last winter. I’d put money on Norway to finish 3rd. Finland and US could maybe have an actual battle to see who gets 4th.

  6. Yes, there we agree. Their will always be inequality and class struggle. I don’t think any system of government will fix that, but I believe it’s our duty to find the one the best curbs the problem.
  7. We didn’t true, but the inequality, class struggle, and terrible economies are the same.
  8. Interesting. Our first “let’s change the borders” initiative this year. As much has I hate the part of California they’re trying to take, they’ll have a fight on their hands to get it. We’ve already killed Jefferson succession multiple times. Then again, I’m the one who wants a vote on Californian independence from the US... This part of Oregon and California is essentially still in the 1930s. It’s probably the least developed parts of the United States. It’s home to many extreme religious groups, and other “crazies”.
  9. In non-US political news (I know, shocking), Afghanistan has their first governing crisis under the new democratic system. Ghani won re-election (for a third term I believe) with 50% of the vote, Abdullah Abdullah (yes, that’s his name) came in second with 30%. Afghanistan’s independent election commission has confirmed the results (and I believe they are the legitimate results). Today, Abdullah declares himself president and formed his own cabinet. So I’m short, Afghanistan currently controls 40-50% of it’s own territory, and now has two presidents.
  10. I did too. It was a special moment where we agreed
  11. Capitalism and Socialism are just one in the same with the different people in charge
  12. I’m expecting an amazing debate between Bernie and Bloomberg. I also can’t wait to see how Buttigieg, Klobuchar, Biden, and Warren factor into that fight. If I had to guess: Bloomberg goes after Sanders’ supporters known as “Bernie Bro’s” (internet trolls) Sanders goes after Bloomberg’s wealth and “stop and frisk” Overall, if the debate gets “fun”, it will show the true divide between moderates, liberals, and progressives (and that would be so, so awesome). I do think this infighting only increases Trump’s chance of victory. Battle lines are being drawn. Moderates won’t support Sanders, and progressives won’t support any but. People will rally around the winner, but will their still be enough energy to beat Trump?
  13. It has the most weight, and that’s important. I actually think 1988 is the “strongest” slogan, and it actually became true for South Korea when we think of the years leading up to the games, and the years following. 2012 is also a good mission statement. 2004 is the best because no one else can make that claim. It also just makes you expect good things, and makes you feel warm and fuzzy about the Olympics. As writer, it’s my favorite.
  14. And the most unique by far.
  15. One of the weirdest, but also scariest threads I’ve seen in a while.
  16. This is the hard-hitting news I come to the IOC for:
  17. I’m not doing this again
  18. Well, there’s two clear favorites. Also clear that most of us aren’t feeling Tokyo’s motto. As I said before, I think it’s because you can’t draw and connection between it and Japan, and it just doesn’t sound good in English. We can also see the Rio’s was a failure too. I honestly forgot that Rio even had a motto. I think 1988 deserves a bit more love, but overall the distribution seems fair in my opinion.
  19. Oh I agree. However, Bloomberg isn’t changing the status quo of US politics. To me, four more years of Trump or four years Bloomberg, will yield similar results. In every test I’ve done Bloomberg’s been the last democratic candidate before Trump (in terms of who aligns with me). Plus, if Trump is relected, I see the chances of having a progressive as president even higher. We might also finally get a vote on Californian Independence then, which is something I’m in a favor of.
  20. Biden’s like a dinosaur from the past. He’s a conservative masquerading as a democrat.
  21. That’s good to hear, I was really concerned about his condition. It’s like Ford v. Ferrari says “Sometimes they get out, sometimes they don’t”.
  22. 2004 is rare example of where exclusive is good. It’s hard to have a more powerful motto than “welcome home”. I mean, it’s the land that started both the ancient and modern games. On the flip side, “Amigos para siempre” works so well because it’s simple and fun to say. “United by Emotion” might be the worst one on there (this is with me refusing to acknowledge 1936 entry, and the aftermath of 1972). It’s not fun, it doesn’t sound good in English, it has nothing to do with Japan. It’s weak.
  23. Buddy, you’ve got the wrong motto/year there...
  24. Yep, NASCAR still the least interesting racing series. Every race just as predictable as next (except for Daytona)
