  1. The women, that is. The men did compete in the final.
  2. My main issue with Pita is him competing in the Olympics in one sport because he only had to fight two people in qualifying (still better than some Oceanian women who literally didn't have to compete), then competed in the Olympics in another sport because of a flawed qualifying system and some...doubtful uses of the rules, and then trying to qualify in yet another sport where he competes in world championships while he doesn't even have the very basics under control yet. Simply moving to the starting psition was a huge challenge. Good for everyone who tries, and it's no problem if someone is pretty far behind, but do we really need people at the Olympics who just don't really have control over the basics of their sport?
  3. This rule feels like awarding medals for every event in the decathlon or something. Or for both the sprint and pursuit in biathlon. Oh wait, they do and I hate it.
  4. All fun and well, but my point about Senegal and Mali (among others) was entirely based on atmosphere, not on feasability I sure haven't seen every event held there, but every time I did (from world youth championships in athletics in Kenya to African U18 basketball in Mali) the stands were totally filled with jumping and dancing and singing people...while in other, possibly richer countries, the atmosphere in events that I've seen was more...boring.
  5. I've been basically melting away, so I was wondering when ice hockey would start!
  6. That obviously depends on the exact illegal thing they're doing. I mean, half the time someone tries to stop someone from doing something illegal that's a 'visible' thing (so not some fraud or whatever) they end up with a knife between their ribs. I could be all heroic and say "I'd stop that robber and kick him to the ground!" but fact is one doesn't know what one would actually do when it happens. Here the best sentiments to 'other' groups than the average is towards 'groups' (as far as you can talk about one homogenous group) that are the least present in stuff like crime rates. The higher the presence of a group in crime rates is, the more the whole group is frowned up, even though rationally one can assume a majority of said group doesn't have much to do with these crime rates. In other words: if I'd have several and pretty much only negative experiences with Californians, at some point I'm gonna feel uncomfortable around Californians, even if I don't actually want to feel uncomfortable.
  7. @Laraja @thiago_simoes @vinipereira @hukbrazil Being an avid sports fan, which TV channels should I definitely have for my stay in Brazil? I'm assuming Formula 1 is shown somewhere, MotoGP too I guess? I'd also very much like to see the athletics world championships of course, and road cycling in case that's shown somewhere (if not, I'll try and VPN home to watch the NOS broadcast ). Watching some Stockcar Brasil would be cool if possible and any suggestion is welcome really
  8. If heyw-una is a girl, her (first) name is already in existence in the IBU database...
  9. No major surprised today among the main GC contenders, Roglic, Valverde, Lopez, Pogacar were all up there. But damn, that was a cool stage!
  10. Obviously, I hope my 'Ugh' made it clear I meant that sarcastic You're right though, I'm curious to see the numbers 10 years from now. So, you know...can't leave Totallympics for the next 10 years, there you go.
  11. That was a sad, sad men's 81kg from the semi's on. That women's 63kg final though, holy cow
  12. I definitely do On one side there's this kind old lady (and her old boyfriend a few days a week). Nice people, not like I go there often but a few times I visit them and it's nice. On the other side there's (since a few months) a young family, whose children are loud, who yell at each other, who give their children noisy toys, who - first thing they did - built an ugly metal fence instead of the nice green 'separation' we used to have with our old neighbour and who have a dog that randomly barks during the day. Don't care much if they're black or white or green or red or purple or where they're from, I am just annoyed by them
  13. Imagine the horror if the man next door happens to have a male partner, your life would be destroyed. I mean, everyone knows gay guys will harrass every guy they see, so you better keep your pants up!
  14. Next year's host city has been leaked in a pretty dumb way It's been between Rotterdam and Maastricht, with the announcement coming Friday, but since today... This works: https://eurovision.tv/event/rotterdam-2020 This doesn't work: https://eurovision.tv/event/maastricht-2020
  15. I believe I saw an athlete from Afghanistan compete against an Israeli a few days ago, but representing IJF. Good for the UAE girl by the way. Sure, she lost, but at least she competed against an Israeli and that's a step in it's own right.
  16. She should just say "I have an ERA of one twenty-six"
  17. Well this is annoying. Mollaei has bout 127 and Muki has 128, which indeed suggests Mollaei goes first, but Muki's bout is listed first.
  18. Awesome ippon for Mollaei Pretty sure I've asked this 100 times, but are Egyptian athletes allowed to fight against those from Israel? (which is the semi now) Asking since of course I know about Iran and earlier this tournament I saw Algeria has the same thing.
  19. Muki won his QF, now it's up to Mollaei...I wonder if he'll forfeit now or at least goes for it now and sees what happens.
  20. Commentator on the IJF stream is not so familiar with flags...."Guam's Andrew against Cumbo of Venezuela" Minor detail, this was Cumbo's flag:
  21. Yeah it was the exact opposite of yesterday, when positioning sucked badly (and Jakobsen ended up behind leadout Richeze), today they brought him towards an absolute perfect position
  22. That's only a few years later than expected
  23. And that's it for Kruijswijk, DNF. About yesterday's stage: Bennett was by far the fastest, as expected considering the past weeks
  24. Ugh. Thanks #TeamBogota for messing up the qualifying
