  1. Wait what? Brezno gets three consecutive weeks? And why?
  2. Here's the interview by the way, if you want to use Google Translate. https://frontpage.fok.nl/nieuws/767062/1/1/50/tt-coureur-jochem-van-den-hoek-overleden.html https://frontpage.fok.nl/nieuws/767168/1/1/50/deel-twee-interview-overleden-jochem-van-den-hoek.html
  3. Because they want it. Literally the only opinion that matters is that of the people actually involved in it and they want nothing more than racing, in this case, the Dakar or the Isle of Man TT and similar road races. It's their life, that's what they're breathing, it's what gives their life meaning in their eyes and that's what they're living for. They all know the risks, every single one of them, and every single one of them accepts it. On our Dutch sports website we had an interview with a Dutch racer in the Isle of Man TT in 2017: readers could ask him questions and he would answer them all - he was the boyfriend of one of our editors, hence the easy connection. Part one of his answers had been posted on the morning of one of the races. On the forum we were all following the live timing until at some point he didn't come through one of the checkpoints. News broke pretty soon he had had a crash, but reports were not clear. "He's ok, but his bike is destroyed" to "It's not looking good", all we knew for (pretty) sure was he crashed. Not much later I got a PM from the editor saying she had heard he had passed away, and later that afternoon it was announced on the local radio. In some sort of weird coincidence, the first question he answered in the part that had been published on what turned out to be the day of his death was "First of: which colour coffin would you like to order?", with his answer being "Gold of course! #winning" His answer to a question about whether or not he thought about the danger tells a lot. "Of course when you're lying in bed at night, you think about it a little. After all, it's a dangerous track and stuff happens. On the other hand, the big risk is exactly what makes racing right here so awesome and so special...if you can't deal with that, fine, but go do something else. I'm doing this because there's nothing better in the world than racing right here. I'm living my dream and for me, nothing in the world is worth more than that." And about preparation, some advice for people who want to do this: "Do your homework! The very last thing you want is to be riding your first lap here, only to realize you didn't study hard enough." All in all, that says enough I think: the riders want it. They are batshit crazy and they know and love it.
  4. [hide] #51 Will Slovakia score more goals than Czech Republic on the first day of the women's Ice Hockey 6-teams Tournament? [No] #52 Will there be a nation with more than two medals in Luge on Day 8? [Yes] #53 What will be the time difference between 3rd and 4th place in Luge men's Doubles? (step - 1) [8] #55 Which nation will score the most goals on the first day of women's Ice Hockey 6-teams Tournament? [Sweden] [/hide]
  5. Really, 'destroying completely'? Pictures are a bit smaller now and so it's totally destroyed? That sounds like a bit of an overreaction, come on.
  6. Bike rider Edwin Straver of the Netherlands had a bad fall today. Not a fast one, but he came down in pretty much the worst position and had no heart beat for 10 minutes or so... He has been transported to a hospital in of course critical condition and has broken one of the vertebrae in his neck, so if he survives, the question is how badly he's injured or paralyzed..
  7. Cool, that's pretty useful. Goodbye insanely big pictures and annoying people quoting posts including the insanely big pictures
  8. I sort of expected it, mostly because Colombia is really developing the speed skating well in Salt Lake City and Amaya has been breaking his records left and right to very respectable times Really happy it worked out, I hope he can keep improving and - for starters - get close to let's say the top-20 of the world in one or two of the main distances, which I am convinced he can.
  9. That's exactly the page I went to and it didn't work in any browser (I got this same message in all three browsers on that entire Lausanne results page, no matter where I went). The sorcery is apparently gone, it now works fine again
  10. Chrome, where it doesn't work - weirdly, since they specifically mention Chrome. I thought "surely it'll work on the other two browsers they mention" and there I get the exact same message. Suddenly, there was no problem yet earlier today.
  11. Same problem in Edge and Firefox Oh Olympic 'community', why are you so bad.
  12. Oh what witchery is this? Greetings from Chrome.
  13. Wow, impressive result by some people, including Yaliotnau and more than certainly Vytautas Strolia
  14. More than excellent competition so far today
  15. Noooo not Alfred Kipketer Although he's not even nearly as fun to watch anymore as he was as a junior.
  16. Badr Hari does indeed sound like the kind of person to go and knock the officials and entourage around. Or just random people on the street who give him a bad look or something.
  17. Once the Olympics are done, they won't need it anymore and it can be taken away to be used elsewhere - with a different layout of course. Plenty of time for a new host, since apparently - as shown by Beijing - they don't want to use the full time they've got to take all advantage.
  18. Mostly because there's still nobody investing in continueing the research on a modular track, which would cost maybe 5% of a regular track and can be build up and taken down easily to be put somewhere else.
  19. To be fair, when it's about natural track luge I guess we can count FISI pretty much as the entire world
