  1. I'll start out with what I've got in mind at the moment. There's a lot of torn ACL's in there, feel free to correct me if that's not technically correct since I'm quick to count a knee injury as a torn ACL Alpine skiing Marie-Michele Gagnon (CAN) - Torn ACL at the Lake Louise World Cup Travis Ganong (USA) - Torn ACL at the Bormio World Cup Jacqueline Wiles (USA) - Torn ACL (?) + double leg fracture at the Garmisch World Cup Erik Guay (CAN) - Back injury Felix Neureuther (GER) - Knee injury Steven Nyman (USA) - ? Freestyle skiing Kelly Sildaru (EST) - Torn ACL Lisa Zimmermann (GER) - Torn ACL Heidi Zacher (GER) - Torn ACL Georgia Simmerling (CAN) - ? Ski jumping Severin Freund (GER) - Torn ACL Biathlon Gabriela Koukalova (CZE) - Leg injury? Snowboarding Sabine Schöffmann (AUT) - Fractured fibula + torn ligaments at the Bansko World Cup
  2. Every time we see the same thing, logically when you're talking about many hundreds of athletes: there's always a few main contenders who get injured, sick or otherwise miss out on the Olympics. I thought it'd be interesting to make a collection of them here, and see just who we are missing out on. Obviously there's no special rules, but personally I'd go for athletes who actually miss out on a somewhat realistic medal chance (where "but he didn't really have a chance" is a different kind of discussion) and who miss out due to things like injury. Someone like Ole Einar Bjoerndalen or Michel Mulder, who in theory would have a medal chance but simply weren't good enough to qualify, doesn't really count.
  3. That would be surprising (no Italian ski jumper qualifying, I mean).
  4. AP has been sleeping through the past two seasons in cross-country skiing?
  5. There really only is one way for the Dutch to move around the village
  6. Cold weather is, -20 isn't, since (at least in biathlon) that's more or less when we start seeing cancellations
  7. I like how there's that whole 'Fearless' theme and then some curling dude comes up
  8. Yeah, because these sports never experience cold weather
  9. @Agger This one is for you, I have no idea
  10. That was freaking awesome. Most offensive yards in the history of NFL. Not the most in the Super Bowl. Not the most in a postseason game. No, the most in the entire NFL history
  11. Worst halftime show ever
  12. And there's the Patriots touchdown, it looks like yet another come-from-behind win incoming. Meh.
  13. Tha's why it never fails
  14. Basically: the ball has to get to the end zone (much like in rugby) You've got four chances (downs) to gain 10 yards, when you have gained 10 yards, you get a new set of downs (meaning you start with 1st down). That's the very basic thought
  15. I spent all day convincing myself that a few hours of sleep more or less won't make a difference, the studying I did in the past week does, so it's ok to watch
  16. What he said I had really hoped the Vikings would reach the Super Bowl, especially after that more than epic last second win a few weeks ago, but well, there's still a clear underdog now so that's who I'm cheering for
  17. Enjoy, the Dutch are coming next year
  18. Yep, it's always a shame when you have to give all your predictions before event one starts, that makes it more of a lottery indeed. Oh well, it's better than nothing, and at least they're all already open
  19. Exam in the morning, but got some sleep and put my alarm to now be awake just in time
  20. Marco Odermatt (SUI) has won gold in the team event, downhill, super-G and alpine combined (so far) at the junior world champs, impressive
  21. I remember that, the pressure of 'we have new suits, now we're awesome' seemed to got a bit too much. Curious how these British sleds will work out, who knows, maybe for the women it might lead to something nice for Deas or even Yarnold if she somehow manages to stay more than two turns without a mistake.
  22. 4 of 7 laps done and Van Aert is 1:40 minutes ahead of vdPoel and Vanthourenhout, damn
