Okey, Paris 2024 is officially over, so it's time to check my now regular statistic about the activity on the forum. As previously, only the official sports topics are counted, with replies until last nights Closing Ceremony, as i was adding them while watching We have another slight improvement compared with Tokyo. The first week was cooking, but i noticed maybe a slight fatigue in the second week of the Games, as especially during the day sessions there weren't as much comments, as in the first 7-8 days. Swimming returning finals to the evening propelled them to the biggest increase. Plus i think the swimming events in Paris were more interesting than those in Tokyo. But athletics was still king, though a bit lower number, than 3 years ago. Rugby also made a big jump, but that was expected since it had 2 days without competition. Biggest ones in red were Equestrian without the presence of @dcro , Track cycling and Rowing. Now for Rowing i figured, because in Tokyo it was early in the morning and practically for 2 hours we were watching only that . In Paris we had more sports surrounding it, so people were choosing something else. For track cycling i'm not sure about the big drop, as it had the same position as in Tokyo. Maybe the hourly schedule wasn't the best, as it overlapped a couple of days with athletics by the end of the session. Maybe that second week fatigue played a factor. It's always fun to see new people around the Olympics. The real trick however is making those people watch and enjoy sports in the long run, without the home country factor. Many users are more active during the Olympics season, because they want their country and athletes to do good and follow how they perform. But after they end, so does their desire to follow sports (at least for a while). And i hope more people will stick around and have fun watching sports regularly, because they like the sports themselves and the different athletes that compete in them, regardless which country they represent.

Can people stop talking about E-sports? Let them have their own version of the "Olympics" in Riyadh or somewhere else and be it. Bach or the next President can go and open it with pleasure. Just keep it separate from the real sports ones..

But because the sport is as popular as it is and has a big branding of creating superstars, who can win "countless medals", it gets a pass on the program. If we were looking objectively, compared with the other sports, the swimming schedule should be only: - 100 m for the 4 styles - 400 and 1500 m freestyle - 400 m individual medley - 4x100 freestyle and 4x100 medley relays - Mayyyyyybe a mixed relay

Some observations on a few other nations. New Zealand continue their leadership in the category of "Most wins and medals compared to the population and territory of the country". Their sporting success and consistency every Summer Olympics is admirable. Netherlands officially confirmed their status as a member of the "Big Boys Club". Second consecutive Summer Games with over 30 medals, but with a better conversion into Golds and 6th place in the table. In Tokyo they were 7th. Add to that the last 3 Winter ones, where they were 5, 5 and 6th and it shows how they have steadily risen in the ranks. Sure, the majority of their medals came from cycling, rowing and athletics, but that just means they are perfectly escalating in the traditionally strong sports for them. Know what you are good at. Uzbekistan also had their best Games ever and so much better than in Tokyo. Their stronghold is boxing, but also have done very good in the other combat sports. Once again the motto of "know what you are good at". I think they were slightly pushed in some boxing matches, but in general their fighters are amongst the best in this version of boxing. Canada is also steadily improving, but unlike and their progress is seen in a large variety of sports. Sure, they have a superstar like McIntosh who brought many of the swimming medals, but i was watching a number of other sports and they had Canadians fighting for top positions everywhere. Sports, which you wouldn't associate with Canada in the past years. Don't know what has changed, but they have broaden their sporting horizon. If things continue like this, by LA 28 they would be in the - - - fight. Also with the US being hosts, they will have a much easier path in the qualifications without the Americans, so their delegation will be 350-400 in 2028 i reckon.

I think it's over now. Valente is going to win the Omnium and regardless of the wrestling final, the US will be first on Silvers. Another last day steal just like in Tokyo.

Nah, I'm thinking 60+ for a home Olympics. 30 from only swimming and athletics and another 30 from the other sports. Now in Paris they are practically at 20 from swimming & athletics, plus around 20 from the other sports, so it should be expected they can add 10 more each as hosts. This will be China's best opportunity for a few Games, as they have exceeded in a bunch of sport, which won't happen in LA and Brisbane I reckon.
