  1. It's not just the incredible opportunity missed. It is also a dangerous cocktail of pandemic taking toll, plus FIS enforcing shortsighted rules where nations can pick up massive points just for, quite literally, pushing their poles at the start. Let me tell you, the worst qualification systems are those where nations can get smart*. Ranking-based qualifications tend to be pretty unfair, but this one really goes the distance (if, indeed, it is correct). *It's not really about being smart. Staying in Oberstdorf for two whole weeks is simply too expensive for most smaller teams, and sending 4+ low-level skiers is even more expensive and a hard sell to sponsors/stakeholders. It's mostly about having funds in this particular case...
  2. Gonna get overtaken by too tomorrow, but at least took a chill pill, so that's something...
  3. As with the African qualifier, we have numerous precedents... Nicaragua will make their debut in rowing. Guatemala qualified for the first time since 1984, since 1988. Dominican Republic and Panama can still hope for a rowing debut.
  4. Right. In case Peru goes for the bigger boat, Panama would get their redemption.
  5. are safe for M1x. http://www.remobrasil.com/attachments/article/1903/05-03_Final-B-M1x.pdf M1x -> LM2x gets reallocationed LM2x -> M1x
  6. First rowing participation for Guatemala since the good old military junta days.
  7. Looks like will qualify in M1x, unless Argentina flops badly in the last final.
  8. qualify in the LM2x.
  9. Mexico, Paraguay qualify via W1x. Cuba got better than 6th, so no joy for Nicaragua (in this event).
  10. Apparently Cuba flopped in the M1x final. They should qualify via W1x then.
  11. The Pan-American championships were scheduled to be held between April 8-11. The ICF will activate its contingency plan to allocate the quotas based on previous event results, in consultation and with the final approval of the International Olympic Committee executive committee. This means either using the World Championships or a bust.
  12. So congrats once again to all the B nations on the start list.
  13. And yet she got 10th in the 10k race. Wonderful technician.
  14. Just because it's legal, does not mean it's just. FIS themselves have a system (in snowboard and freestyle skiing), where the last placed individuals/nations (not just the last, something like the bottom 10%) receive heavily reduced points. They should have used the same formula for the nations cup here. Maybe they do, actually.
  15. Nicaragua still not in. They need some convenient outcomes.
  16. I guess it would be useful to make a simulation using heat times, though such rankings are by no means biding.
  17. Just casually pointing out to our recruiters that a user from Uganda was hanging around the forum today.
  18. Obviously no medals are expected in Torun, but the fact that those medals did nothing to improve the overall rate of championships participation says it all.
  19. Well, considering IBU changed their system, one can't really take any of this for granted.
  20. Only 4 athletes for us (2M+2W). You know, the usual for the nation who placed 7th in the Rio medal table...
  21. Aaaaand Lithuanians troll themselves to an Olympic qualification. I'm afraid we'll be the ones getting the bitter end out of this.
  22. Okay, we are used at horrendous TV direction for the later starters in the interval races. There must something fascinating about showing the same slow-motions and 'provisional results' again and again, instead of focusing on some later bibs punching above their weight. If it were up to me, the interval races would always be held during the first weekend, while the relays would be there for the other weekend. All other events can be held within a single day for all I care.
  23. Anyway, this contest already has a nipple and a f*ck with me. Is NBC pulling out of this? @Olympian1010
