Will Ngamba actually represent Great Britain at Paris? I thought she was focused on qualifying as a Refugee athlete? And if so, what would happen to Reid’s quota?

Now that Chantelle has qualified Ngamba will represent Refugee, GB Boxing have even dressed her up as a qualifier on their twitter page with the whole shabang (enlarged tickets, mascot teddy, etc) which I don't think they'd have done if they had the intent of dropping her for Cindy. Although like mpjmcevoy and Rafa said a few pages back, the British media will treat her as our own at the games.

Can’t speak on the majority of the weightclasses that Great Britain has qualified in, as I’m far from an expert, but I can tell you for a fact that Chantelle Reid in women’s 75kg isn’t an Olympic medal contender. All of the top names had already qualified through their respective continental tournaments.

Chantelle was actually a surprise qualifier, as many thought only Cindy would qualify and she would become our representative. I would consider Patrick Brown a medal contender though, he fought well all week and looked impressive.

wasn't really that poor was it, the two that qualified looked really good, poor would have been qualifying no one, not sure how many quota spots have been lost per weight class but i remember the qualification tournament for tokyo was a lot easier to obtain, everyone that has qualified can consider themselves a medal chance

I'd disagree, there were 3-4 boxers who were amongst the favourites in their category to qualify who got beat in the first round. Yes they got tough draws, but the fact a lot of them got thumped 5-0 is were the real issue lies.

  4. I think if they're gonna cut anywhere, it'll be on second place who only just scraped the time as they could make the case of not winning the national title being the reason for their exclusion. I also think if the likes of Evans and MacIness miss the standard by around a tenth, then I still think they'll get selected for the individual as they'll most likely use them for the relay and having them swim the individual could give them a feel for the event on their debits (I believe they did the same with Bird last year by letting him swim the 800 despite him only qualifying for the 400).

Angharad Evans gets a new PB in the final of the Edinburgh International meet with an OQT of 1:06.25 and more importantly, it's also within the British Swimming's nomination standard - now all she has to do is repeat that at the Trials next month but based on current form, got to believe she has a great chance of setting new British record and booking her ticket to Paris.

Also worth mentioning Kara Hanlon - she clocked a 1:06.90 so needs to shave half a second off her time to meet the standard.

Evans looked great tonight, she blitzed the first 50 and nearly did it in sub 31 seconds. Can definitely see her going under 1:06, and even if she doesn't repeat this but still comes really close I can't see BS passing her up with the form she's in + with her being in the relay too.

  6. Very surprised Johnny Mellor isn't on there, maybe he's chancing his hand at the other EU ones. In terms of who'll get the OQT via London Marathon, I reckon Ghebresesilasie might just sneak it.

Women's 60Kg - :KOS Donjeta Sadiku def. :GBR Shona Whitwell (5-0)

This is turning into a shit show for :GBR, this time one of the favourites for the quota is gone early. Yes she had a tough draw but like Bevan she shouldn't be losing that badly.

Entry list for the European qualifier, the list is not final but will have only few changes

the seeding is correct but most of better wrestlers are unseeded making it almost useless.

no Armenia at all, for obvious reasons  it seems participating here is necessary to compete in the last World Qualifier. but Armenia will be an exception and UWW will allow them to wrestle.

Russia didn't register a freestyle team yet. and their 97kg Greco guy (and that's Sargsian and not the Oly Champs Evloev) is wrongly listed for 97kg FS. they will enter a freestyle team for sure.

no Kurugliev for GRE at 86kg which means he still has paperwork to do.

No :GBR entries is disappointing, we usually give these a crack and send a handful.

The Bello brothers get their 2024 season underway later today when they compete in the qualifying for the Elite16 event in Dubai.

They'll start their campaign against :ITA Rossi & Lupo. If they can come through that, they'll face the winner of :FRA Canet / Rotar v :BRA Pedro Solberg / Guto for a place in the main draw.

Their 2023 season was hampered a fair bit by injury, and they didn't compete as on the main tour as they probably would have liked so it's great to see them starting their season so early and doing so in a top tier event.

Whilst I am not expecting them to qualify for Paris through the ranking route, I do think they could be dark house for a surprise quota via the Continental Cup.

This would be a big quota for us if we could get it. The sport has the potential to blow up over here in my opinion and the coverage the Bello brothers would get would help this on massively.

Men's 80kg: :HUN Pylyp Akilov def. :GBR Taylor Bevan (5-0)

That's a bad defeat for Bevan, wasn't the best of draws but thought he'd do better than that. Will be overwhelming favourite in the 2nd qualifier I'd assume.
